ATI to launch at same time as nvidia?

http://www.tomshardware.com/business/20040323/cebit2004_1-15.html

It's less humorous when the press is used as a pawn in the PR war. The "secret services" have apparently done their work and so both manufacturers have set dates for important press conferences - of course completely coincidentally - for the exact same time next month. Therefore, journalists are faced with the question of whether to go to ATI or to NVIDIA! Because it is normally rather difficult to divide editors in half, at least in a practical way, the decision will inevitably be a wrong one. It remains to be seen if both parties will come to an agreement and put an end to these childish games. So far, both of them have been asserting: "we were first," or, for example, "he started it". The only ray of hope is that the e-mail invitations did not turn up exactly at the same time.

:D

Whoever the has the current overall performance market leadership should go second.

They should just decide on that every generation if both companies have products ready within the same timeframe (a week?).

No tit for tat and playing childish games.

i can already see PR depertments stateing "our product sucks compered to our competetion, so we will lauch first."...sure 8) ...that might happen ... like never?

As usual, I think THG is smoking something that causes neuron depletion and exhaustion. If two companies hold press releases at "10:00 am on Tuesday," the appropriate solution for a web site is....drum roll....send one reporter to one, and another reporter to the other. Gosh, what a tough nut to crack...;) If THG has only a single reporter...well...seems to me that's THG's problem, as opposed to being a conspiracy (and, it would certainly explain a lot of what THG writes.) Maybe the THG editor has already been cut in half?

Besides, both companies will be posting all of the details on their respective web sites in short order, and browsing multiple web sites is something even a single person can do. Mainly, though, it strikes me that what will be important are the cards being released for review, how they compare, and the dates at which the products actually ship to the marketplace. I really have trouble seeing their problem, other than the obvious one, which is that they can't fathom why the world doesn't work at the convenience of THG...;)

Oh noes! Graciousy-goodnessess!!!

However will Tom face the dilema of having two editors in two different places at once, it just BOGGLES THE MIND!!!!

<sigh>

Is he really so paranoid that he can't just relegate a couple of staff members to cover the events? Crap, even our little site EB could do that!

Hmm.. Do I keep my current oc'd 9800 Pro and wait for the R420/NV40 refresh, or do I pick up R420/NV40 next month? Decisions decisions........

I'm fully confident Tom bifurcated his personality years ago.

Edit: Dear lord, I misspelt confident.
You misspelt Lord, too. Or did you think a lowercase would make taking His name in vain less sinful?

Blasphemer.

What. The R420/NV40 speed bump refresh won't have an AGP part??

To my knowledge, NVidia will continue to support AGP. ATI on the other hand is moving quite fast to PCIe. On the roadmap, I only saw one AGP part and that was in the high end. They may continue to sell the R350/RV360 to fill the mid end AGP segment. But really, I'm just speculating. :D

Well, if your goal is to have a nice trip with an IHV's nose up your butt and call it a business expense, then yes you might be bitter about having to send someone else to an opportunity like that because the IHV's were so mean as to make it impossible for you to do both. I mean, what good is it to be a well-off mega-site owner if you have to give some of the goodies to the plebes who actually make the place run?

Well,
1- you need to be able to go from one conference to the other in the same day
2- Isn't the party the moment Nv launch the Nv40? :?:

So ATI is having a R420 'Party' at the same time as NV have a dour NV40 'conference'.

That'll sort the serious journalists out from the wasters! ;)

nope, the party is the moment the nv40 gets removed from the desks, and the strippers come out. at least last time, THAT was when the party started :D
