ATI Radeon Mobility 9600 announced

Its GDDR-2M, and they'll support up to 128MB on the package.

And the 'other' feature I've been talking about is 'Overdrive'.

I've just come back from CeBit and the ATI press conference on the launch of this. They had the same demos from the 'Title Club', but this time comparine MR9600 against Quadro FX 2000. The Renderman teapot sahder was running in FP16 (with very bad artifacts) and the MR9600 was twice as fast. Same with the PS2.0 test on 3DMark03.

Mildly related: I've tried to follow up on the expected performance of the desktop Radeon 9600 PRO and the only line I'm getting is its faster than 9500 PRO. I still want to see this...

As do I...it would be pretty incredible if they can pull it off. (That is, "overall" the 9600 Pro beats the 9500 Pro).

Though given the specs I remain highly skeptical. Any idea when review samples might go out?

Another thing I find interesting is the performance out of a passively cooled mobile part. I can see with some decent active cooling how they will get even better performance out of a desktop version. This RV350 is far more impressive then I had originally thought.

hehe found isn't the best term. ATI and Elpida formed a strategic relationship 2 years ago. They designed the specs of GDDR2-M together.
