Assassin's Creed: Valhalla

Fairly small data size for such a triple-A series title.
I think you can make a case tight there are far fewer varieties of textures in a game like AC Valhalla. Lots of wood, stone and cloth textures but most structures where built from a few materials, most clothes and weapons were made from a few materials etc.

I'm sure the texture work is great, but it's probably nowhere near as varied as Watch Dogs Legion. I.e. lots of bespoke textures for different shops and graffiti and so on.

I have this pre-ordered and intend to run it at max quality settings 1080p which I'm reasonably comfortable my 1070 should be able to handle. The catch - I'll be running it off an HDD. It's going to be interesting to see what impact that has.

Yeah I’m writing this off as the Black Flag of this generation. Skip.
Black Flag was awesome!! Land-based assassin shenanigans, sea-based pirate shenanigans! I'd have loved a Black Flag losing those tedious tailing missions with AC Unity's engine and I'm keen to see what Ubisoft do with that oft-mentioned, oft-delayed pirate game.

I think Valhalla has the same problem that Syndicate does; while England is bountiful and beautiful several days every year, it's renowned for being grey, drizzly and cold for good reason. Following Odyssey, which was truly stunning, it just does not impress visually.

Black flag was spectacular for its day, but Origins and Odyssey are superb games in their own right. I'm in two minds myself over the new direction.

I like the bigger open worlds, I hate the heavy-RPG mechanics. Everything up to and including Unity was fine, these weapons need these skills, these weapons are better and do more damage, this armour boosts these stats, but none of that stopped me killing somebody with a hidden blade in one strike. Nor did this this mean I had hack away with 100 strikes to kill somebody because there was no level 1 player vs. a level 30 guard.

Syndicate started the downward trend.

First couple of review I've seen are positive. I was planning to put this off for a while but maybe I'll dip in for a month of Ubisoft+
