Assassins Creed Unity [PS4, XO]

Any good? I've been holding off buying it because of the microtransactions.

Micro transactions don't affect the game at all. You quickly earn money and skill points through your normal course through the game.

I wouldn't recommend it as as I have said before its easily the worst game in the franchise, but if you're a sucker for this franchise like me then get it as otherwise you'll feel you've missed out. Although it does absolutely nothing to advance the 'real world' story.

With the latest patch you also no longer need the companion app for unlocking some of the treasure.

I installed Unity yesterday and let it patch itself into workingness. Is the app worth it? I quite liked the Black Flag companion app because it had a fleet management mini game that I found quite compulsive.

I don't actually know! I haven't tried it, just read that some people didn't like having to use the app to unlock treasure and so are happy they can now do it in the main game.

found a cheap copy, half price and ordered it. Will arrive by weekend. I don't think I will like th egame, but I do still want to go on that virtual tourism trip. Hope its not a total drag.

Different strokes for different folks. I say its one of the best. Replacing the Desmond/unnamed Abstergo employee with runs through unaffiliated timelines was a plus. Moving the game away from flat roof top running changed the whole series for me. The parkour is more nuanced versus straight hold button while running mechanic, even though its somewhat glitchy. Travelling across the roof tops efficiently takes effort now and is a minigame unto itself.

The only thing I miss is the Jackdaw.

I must admit I've been quote disappointed by the app integration of most games I've seen this gen. I'm definitely consigning to trend to the gimmick pile. Perhaps connected games benefit more but since I generally don't do multiplayer I may be missing the good stuff.

Black Flag is the first Assassin's Creed I finished and I think much of it was to do with the distraction of pirating and naval combat. I genuinely don't know how far I'll stick with Unity but I am keen to experience the changes. Less modern day nonsense, and less crap following missions will go some way to help me enjoy it. And like RR, I just want to explore revolutionary Paris.

I started this game about four hours ago and can't tear myself away from it. I got to Paris about 90 minutes back and I'm really liking it. In fact there's little not to like other then he English voice actors and the odd environment traversal glitch.

I don't understand the comments about the bad/difficult combat, perhaps because I came to Unity via Shadow or Mordor, where situation awareness and positioning is absolutely critical to staying alive in a hectic fight. The same seems to be true in Unity and besting 4 or 5 opponents feels very satisfying rather than a matter of time as with previous AC games.

The city feels alive and there always seems to be something going on. On top of everything else, it looks gorgeous

How many patches and in what sizes will I have to download of I get this game now? Considering how The Order has turned out to be a fun game too, after DC and Destiny before it, now I think the reviewers are basically lunatics and cannot see fun even if it was shoved into their faces, I am about to order this as its pretty cheap now. But HDD space management is the biggest mini game on th eps4, almost like managing ur inventory in RE4 :yep2:, so i need to know what exactly will be the space ACU will occupy on my hdd, post patches and all. and how big are the patches please.

Having installed the game from a retail disc (I don't know which version it contained) only one 6.5Gb optional patch has been downloaded and installed. I'm guessing this is patch 4. I don't know how PS4 patches work but patch 4 is either cumulative (including the contents of earlier patches), my retail disc includes a version of the game including up to the third patch or the PS4 patching system is quite clever.

I spent a fairly insane 10 hours with Unity yesterday. Every part of the city feels fantastic and you can 'feel' which part of the city you're in by the roads, shops, style of architecture and people. This facade of revolutionary Paris is utterly convincing and I'm digging the combat - as someone who loved Shadow of Mordor and felt the combat in previous Assassin's Creed games was pedestrian. The contextual attacking animation system makes you look so unbelievably badass :yep2: and isn't that why we play a game where we're an assassin?

Going by the number of memory sequences, I'm a little over halfway through the game and have done a fair amount of side missions which thus far have great variety. And unlike just about everybody else, I'm liking the story. It's more grounded (rather than mental) this time. I'm usually flagging on games after having played them solid for a couple of hours but I can't wait to dive back in this evening.

So, whats the final size on ur hdd now? Also, is urs the US version or the EU version as all EU version are larger in size due to extra languages.

I think it's around 50 GB if you also have the Dead Kings add-on installed (which you probably will because it's free, but which you can hopefully opt out of because it's bloody awful)

Yup, 46.43Gb without Dead Kings. Ouch, I didn't realise it was so big. I'm glad to grabbed it on disc - it's almost twice the size of Black Flag (24.02Gb), which I don't think I could go back too after having got used to Unity.

I've noticed the weirdest thing with regard to performance. While playing the game my PS4's fans runs so quiet while running this game with one exception, if I enter the 2D character customisation menu to buy skills or weapons the fans rev up like a 747 engine. Exit the menu and back to normal.

How does that even happen? :runaway:

^It's very much unique to this game. My guess would be that the game never stops rendering the actual game content, and then the added load of Ubisoft's sluggish and over-designed menus comes along and pushes the poor PS4 innards over the edge.

I thought this was a known bug, the unlocked frame rate in the menu means 100% GPU use.
