Assassin's Creed - New Interview

This game looks like Prince of Persia, only set during the Crusades. Is it supposed to bring something more to the table than the PoP did?

I have the feeling this game won't live up to the hype.
I'd settle for anything like PoP. Not even PoP's sequels are like PoP since they decided to go the cheap MTV action route.

Not semantics, just use of the English language.

That's what Semantics is, the meaning of words. You want to argue about the deifnition of 'lacking', I'm not gonna bother.

As they pointed out at the time, the AI code was exactly the same for both version.

You don't know that at all.

IGN said:
While the PlayStation 3 and 360 versions of Assassin's Creed are virtually identical, Raymond did say that on the 360 the team is putting a special emphasis on achievements. The hardware also allows for improved threading, which will improve even further the crowd AI.

Go read some previews so you at least know what you're talking about.

This game has nothing in common with PoP other than a very acrobatic main character...

Nah, the game isn't my cup of tea so it's not worth the effort. But I have watched some videos of the game play, and the first thought I had was how much it looked like PoP. They seem to be borrowing heavily from PoP's animation and move sets, at least that was my impression.

Not that I care though. I do hope the game turns out to be good, at least for your sake since you seem to have some emotional investment in it being so.

But you care enough to come into a thread and proclaim it won't "live up to the hype?" :???:

I think it will be a great game sure, and I was wondering what you were basing that opinion on since you didn't really seem to have any knowledge of the game.

To answer your question, yes it brings a whole lot more than PoP to the table.

Think PoP + Grand Theft Auto + Hitman.

Well, I said I think it may not live up to the hype. I didn't mean to "proclaim" anything. But what I should have said is that if it turns out to be PoP with a just fresh coat of paint then it may not live up to the hype.

However, I see your point. If it can successfully meld game play elements from those games you mention it should be something special.

Firstly, I wasn't arguing about the definition of "Lacking" you were as it seems you don't know it.

It is not an assumption at all, I am sure in your search for that quote you found the one a couple of days later from someone else from UBI saying that it was a misunderstanding, and the code is identical.

Yes I know you are going to ignore it because it's on a PS3 website, but that is you choice.

In fact, they've even added it to that preview that your original quote came from.

I guess that's why you linked to the PC preview and not the 360 one.

Game went gold today. Wonder which sites will start leaking early reviews

On both PS3 and 360. Score one for the former. Now though, I have to wonder since the PS3 rev hasn't been shown a lot, what sort of minor deficiencies it might contain.

I have high hopes for this game along with Mass Effect. I have begun getting tired of FPS, and just yearn for something "different". Hopefully one or both of these games can deliver that. Along with stunning visuals. Say what you want but a big part of what made Gears of War so mindblowing for the first couple weeks was the visuals. I say that because trudging through Half Life 2 on Orange box is decent, but it completely lacks any state of the art graphics, and that truly does detract from the experience.

I'm curious if they were able to fix memory problem. Ubi is doing something in London this weekend. I wonder if Assassin Creed will be playable for both system in London.

This game has been waaay too sketchy for my taste. The reviews should be interesting.

Here's me going on record!

We might have a "Lair" in the works!

The game can't fail because of Jade Raymond.

This is a huge game regardless Jade Raymond. I posted earlier that it has a 200 person team, and 20 AI programmers alone.

Maybe I'm dumb but that raises my hype factor a lot, when there is a ton of money and people behind a game, you tend to get better results.

I just hope they fix the tearing evident in the last videos. The latest internet hands on rumor/report suggested that they had.

They're pushing this at my local EB... lots of pre-order signs and CE-boxes on the counter.

This is one I'll wait for reviews. It's got the potential to be good, but it has certainly looked a little inconsistent.

I find that unlikely. If at this point in time it would be unfinished/unpolished as Lair was, Ubisoft could delay the title. They have no immediate interest in launching a flawed title, as Sony did have with pushing Lair out of the door.

I wouldnt generalize Lair in a bad way. the game is way too opinion based and I for one find it very enjoyable. perhaps lair could've been more successful if certain feature was implemented but the point is dont be afraid of the critics and dont be a slave of the media.

Same here, huge display about 8 foot tall for assassins creed, posters cut outs and the whole bit. And its surrounded by posters of the PS3/cut outs of the PS3. Which is what I found weird.

Wasnt Lair mostly criticized because of its controls(aka SixAxis?) other than that, alot of elements on the game was very much enjoyed.

This game isnt SA based, so I think it'll do just fine :p

Actually, no. I think the eurogamer review summerises it best, precisely because it doesn't really have an issue with the controls at all. It's the game itself that isn't polished enough. Remember, even patsu gave the game about a 6/10, and he mostly enjoyed the controls.

I'm still looking forward to AC...especially for the climbing. I loves my platforming. Framerate and tearing don't worry me too much...what worries me the most is this "twist".

I don't mind twists in games, in fact I like them....BUT so far they are using special effects which shove this twist in our face ALL the time, everytime we pass a character - during cutscenes with futuristic flashes. It means the twist is always in front of you - really taking you out of this beautiful world they have created. I really hope they have toned it down...all this Matrix malarky could destroy this game.
