AFAIK you can't use tripple-buffering with dual/quad setups, which is a must IMO.

Got a link for that? AFAIK RadeonPro can force triple-buffering in most D3D games and the native driver can force it in OpenGL.

Also, as almighty pointed out...30 fps max from one card vs. 60 from two with the "danger" being that on some occasions you might drop to 30 with vsync...?

More Crysis ;)

8xMSAA + 8xTSSAA

ALL CAPTURES FROM GAME PLAY on my computer......... NONE of this 'e_screenshot=1' bullshit...

Very. No other settings changes?
Has to be DX9 since you have TSSAA...what kind of framerates?

DX9 8xMSAA = min of 31fps and an average of 52fps....so VERY VERY playable..

I play with the framerate capped at 30fps anyway, So no matter how intense the action gets I get a smooth game play experience because I don't get 30fps-to-70fps frame rate spikes..

And no, I've not made any other changes...

AFAIK, it is not possible to get Vsync triple buffering to work in any other mode besides split frame rendering.
There is one minor downside: Triple buffering cannot be used with SLI or Crossfire (dual card) systems. This is because triple buffering doesn't work with the type of rendering used in those setups. Some people have gotten it to work in SLI, however, by forcing "split frame rendering" in the nVidia control panel under "3D settings".

And from that AT article, Derek Wilson in the comments:
multiGPU options and triple buffering do not play nice together at this point in time.

What about microstuttering, is it noticeable and how much? And driver support? I've seen a lot of threads on tech forums about new driver releases which go like "this breaks multi-GPU support for game X".

Uh...that article is from 2007. Not exactly current.
I haven't had any microstuttering issues and the games I've played with Xfire so far (Batman:AA, Fakefactory Cinematic Mod (HL2), Wings of Prey, Crysis, BFBC2) have all worked very well with no 30 fps drops even with vsync on. I have *not* been trying to force triple-buffering in D3D as I haven't perceived framerate or lag issues, but I'll test it at some point soon just to check. RadeonPro claims to support it and claims it works in most games even with Crossfire.

If you do a bit of googling you'll find that those who have evaluated it have said very positive things about Crossfire on 6970, including many that claim no microstuttering.

Nope, No micro stuttering for me...never had when I used to run 5770 Tri-Fire either...

No CrossFire problems, every game uses it and scales loverly...

Any idea's what this new setting in the 11.1 WHQL Control panel is?

It looks like a form of "temporal AA" as seen in Halo Reach. It changes the sample positions for every other frame and blends the two images together, so if you focus the camera on an object that isn't moving the effective AA is doubled. Does nothing most of the time though since nobody just sits there and stares at stuff.. do they? ;)

Here are some shots I took in Two Worlds II. All settings maxed DX10 but no AA for performance reasons. I get 30-40 FPS at 1440x900 with a GTX260.

I'm posting thumbnails because these are 2-3MB PNGs. JPEG doesn't work to good on these images for some reason.

i've been playing around with oblivion shaders more and i have fallen in love with the DOF shaders. so i thought i would do a comparson, some of this stuff doesn't work in images so i have taken some video, there about 25meg each @ 1280X1024 H.264 2pass 7000kbps.

if you only going to watch one or two watch 1 then 4 and 5 ( 5 is very small) and for the love of god watch them full screen :p

Its taken me a fair bit of effort and time so you all better watch them!!!!
i have 5 vidoes.
1. completely unmodded oblivion everything on highest 2XAA + AAA
2. modded everything on high 2xAA + AAA
3. modded SSAO, GODRAYS, bleach filter, AA filter, 2xAA + AAA
4. modded DOF, SSAO , GODRAYS, blech filter, AA filter , 2XAA + AAA
5. focusing on a plant, modded DOF, SSAO , GODRAYS, blech filter, AA filter , 2XAA + AAA
images of the five in order are below:
