I'll take the lower one. Crisper lighting, tree has defined shadows (merged vs non merged sahdows?), distant haze (better blending/softening between landscape and skybox), also looks crisper overall (PP res?).

Ugh. So hard to say. Only difference I can detect is that in most places (not all), the second one is brighter. So I think I'm going to guess the second is DX10, just because I think it looks a little better.

That game also has dynamic lighting.. cloud shadows pass over the environment. I think that's why one of them seems brighter than the other, just fewer clouds.

The bottom one is DX10. Its hard to tell from that shot but in action it looks quite a bit better. The graphics just feel "warmer" and more realistic. It could just be more intense HDR but its almost like you can feel the sunlight on your skin in DX10 mode while DX9 feels drab and flat by comparison.

@ Jedi, although the clouds do have a similar effect, thats not what your seeing here as I deliberatly made sure both shots were in direct sunlight. The difference illustrated by these shots is consistent throughout the whole game.

That's quite some washing out of detail with the harsher light. Reminds me of demo mode for TVs with the contrast up to the max. Ah well.

I guess some detail does get washed out but IMO at least, its well worth it when you see the game in motion. I had actually assumed DX9 and DX10 were identical graphically and I swtched to DX9 to see if I could get a performance boost (which I did by a large amount). But after less than a minute of playing I was like, hang on, something wrong here. The graphics just weren't making me go "wow" at every turn like they were under DX10.

I eventually settled on the lower performance because for me, the feeling of "being there" is half the fun in AC and that feeling was a lot more intense under DX10. Its amazing what some subtle lighting changes can do :D

DX10 reveals the holy light! ;) Wonder what actually changed between the paths. It does look closer to the console editions with this lighting though.

Are the cascade shadowmaps just as noticeable when you get closer to a shadowmap (as though the shadows were like bilinear filtered textures with clear MIP transition)?

I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be looking for tbh but shadows seem sharp and clearly defined to me. I can't see any issues with them other than being a little jaggie around the edges, but only if you look closely.

Warhead has been destroyed by my rig ;)

No loss from going from 8xAA from 4xAA

Sod off :D

Can you imagine buying a C2Q from pjbliverpool
"Oh yes compared to your Q6600, the Q6700 is like a dozen maidens from the east licking vanilla ice cream from your nether regions while the wind whistles all through the night and other welsh hymns"

Haha I like it! Perhaps i'm feeling a bit overly poetic today since I managed to bag myself a date with a Romanian goddess earlier on :D

Crysis showing off ATI's transparency AA in action :D

Edge AA was disabled as it's not needed :)

All images were downscaled from 1280x1024

I did the tests with 8xAA as well but there is literally no difference between 8xAA and 4xAA in terms of image quality.

Somethings up with those AC shots. I've never noticed that big of a difference between DX9 and 10. It looks like the lighting conditions of the level actually changed between the two screens (one's overcast skies and one's not).

Here's a better comparison between the two:

DX10 is a bit more atmospheric but there's a pretty heavy penalty between XP DX9 and Vista DX10.

DX10 has less washed out lighting in those shots too. :p

Not really breaking any graphical barriers with this one, but I thought it was humorous. This is my computer last Friday during Blizzcon. I ordered a virtual ticket which gave me access to both days via a live internet stream. As you can see directly next to it I decided to play WoW at the same time. Forgive the empty white box. I love you all, but not enough for you to know my real name ;)

I thought your real name was Ink Andersen...
