Any way to download a stream?

I don't want to stream it, instead I want to first download the best quality version and save it as a file and then view it. Is it feasible?

There used to be an app called asf recorder that could download windows media streams, but I think development stopped on it a couple of years ago.

Maybe you could try a site like Doom9.net , they seem to have anything and everything to do with video encoding, decoding, capturing, etc.

For the *nix geeks:

There is a free, non-shareware solution. Xine can save streams into files, but the command line to do it is never officially documented - even I have forgotten it. Fotunately, the KDE frontend for Xine - Kaffeine - retains this function. Many distros don't come with both together I think, so you'll have to be geek enough to do the usual ./configure, make, make install.
