Any Macross experts around?

So I just watched Macross Zero, and oh my. It was just so gorgeous that I almost wanted to kill myself because I'll have to wait ages for the next episode

But anyway, since it seems as if there are quite a few Macross series/OVAs out there I'd appreciate if someone could give a timeline or something for when which serie is occuring. The only problem is that I most likely won't be able to watch anything made in the 80's, mainly because they're just so damn ugly hehe. I tried watching some of the old Gundam stuff but bleh, just couldn't stand it.

BTW, Robotech is not part of the canonical Big West Co. Macross timeline, it is three unrelated series (all made by Big West - SDF Macrossl, Super Dimensional Cavalry Southern Cross, and Genesis Climber Mospaeda) "pushed" together into one timeline by Carl Macek. The Macross part is pretty close to the original but the other two are more bastardized.
