another bitorrent question: no seeders, download is steady.

I am downloading this torrent which began with no seeds.
Only once did a seed appear, but it is gone.

However, the torrent is downloading strong ever since.

I'm at 65%. There are peers that are always ahead of me, one is at almost 70%.

May I presume that the tracker has lost control of the torrent status? Is the Peer Exchange feature playing an important role here?

Very possible. Or the torrent exists on several trackers, and the multi tracker data isn't present in your torrent. I'm assuming you're using Azureus? If you check the torrent details under the peer tab there is a column called source. This will show tracker, dht, incoming or peer exchange.

happened to me many times.... i see health of file at 45%, but people with it are strongly downloading also and constantlly pushing health....so by the time i finish my DL, they even start seeding...
