Amd hammer shows its face , can it be the next xbox cpu

Atleast Nintendo has had a long term deal with ATI few months ago....which will lead to GC2 but I have heard nothing about MS plans....no article, no speculation....nothing...

What about that article that said that Microsoft was designing its own cpu and gpu that used .NET ?

is very possible, AMD is known for having better prices than the competition. Could be a great part of the plan to keep it above the rest of the bunch while making a profit this time around..

I was thinking it has the best fpu's and it seems to have the cool advantage this time around . This is the server chip there are reports that they have the athlon 64 at 2.5ghz . That would be a great chip for the xbox. That and the fact that ms is going all out with its 64bit windows . Could be interesting to see .

HT2 is currently in development also. I think AMD getting the contract for the cpu in Xbox 2 is a great route. Wasn't Xbox originally getting an AMD cpu until Intel lowered their asking price? AMD is also a small company that can make fast transitions and this can be benefitial when making a custom tweaked cpu.

The only issues is fab space, I don't think many except for AMD's Dresden fab and IBM can produce Hammer as it is, due to SOI. I hope AMD is able to have a HT2 part soon with extra fab capacity from IBM, otherwise, I as MS wouldn't rely on a company with such little fab space. One natural disaster and the entire CPU supply chain is "hammered".

It's different from a large corporation point of view.

Intel undercut AMD's price for the original Xbox, and they continually undercut AMD's price for companies like Dell to remain exclusive.

AMD is cheaper usually to most consumers because that's how it has to be for them to compete with Intel. The story changes when companies order in bulk.
