Alien Isolation

The Alien was quite disturbing at the time of the first movie, but it has become a pop culture icon by now. We're completely de-sensitivized to it's look, maybe even kids are not scared at its sight anymore... Although it could still have some subconscious effect but it'd take some serious academic research to find out...

I played it with a GF watching and she was pretty scared. She's a big Alien movie series fan but the game had her jumping and screetching lol. I'm really desensitized to horror from movies and games but women don't seem to have that tendency. My sis says she's wimpier as an adult and she and I grew up on the same horror movies.

It's funny you mention SS2, as I believe it was a lot more effective especially gameplay wise.

The Alien in the game does not feel to me as a more advanced intelligence compared to the hybrids and other creatures in SS2. I think it's because it's much harder to fool, as it always seems to converge on the player's position, as if its perception isn't bound by the limits of any other being.
The alien is intelligent and has elevated senses so it seems realistic, if frustrating.

I would say I enjoyed SS2 more. But it's hard to judge past experiences fairly. Alien was definitely solid.

That's disgusting to me, but I understand that a survival horror like that wouldn't ever be a top seller since the kids can't go guns blazing then teabag the alien. One of the most intense and gorgeous experiences ever in the history of gaming and they've only just sold 1m.

1m is an excellent result nowadays.
I wonder if was enough for them to break even.

I just wanted to post that I've been playing this game now for a solid 2 months (since release anyway, when ever that was) and I am making slow progress. Constant crawling and hiding in every single locker every 30 seconds and 40 steps has a way of prolonging the experience I guess...

At first, I didn't like the laggy controls much - and the visuals seemed a bit underwhelming *at first* - but boy did that change after a solid 20 minutes of gaming. The game really starts to shine once you reach the corridors and the light or smoke effects come into play. I haven't completed the game yet, so I've been trying to avoid this topic in fear of spoilers, but I just wanted to pop-in to say what a brilliant game the devs have created here. Brutal, exhilirating and scary. I love it. 10/10 from me so far. This game really revives the survival genre - something that IMO has been lost since the original Resident Evil game. A lot of games could learn a lot on how to create tension and suspense without the need of bullet-sponge enemies or relying on waves of enemies.

Constant hiding in lockers is really not that much needed, even with Alien around. When he is a bit away, I always stand up and just walk to the next hiding location [tables and hospital gurneys are great for ducking below them], which accelerates the traversal a lot. He even does not comes down from the vents in some stages if user is quiet [no running, hitting, firing gun]. But still, hearing him in vents is sooooo creepy.

One of the best game I played in 2014 by far, it's really a test of your stealth and planning while feeling vulnerable all the time. Segment like
Prometheus ship tour
was such a nice touch and I only wish it's longer. The graphics really carried the game a lot especially the lighting, shadows and particles. The occasional Alien 1 theme tunes were such reminiscence as well. If there ever was a sequel I can see it goes the Aliens route, it would still be survival horror but with increased dangers and more actions.

Prometheus movie was set on different planet. We don't know the complete origin of the derelict that landed on LV-426.

This sums up my experience so far with Alien: Isolation perfectly... (drew this on my phone in an attempt to explain why I was still hiding inside the same locker after nearly 30minutes...)

Having said that, it's close to a miracle young Amanda hasn't died of old-age, boredom or food deprivation inside one of the lockers during my play through yet...

I am still stuck at the very first stealth section / opportunity to get killed. Kinda depressing... Of course the game also doesn't really have a high priority. I have a lot of playing to do ...

I've been quite embarrassed to admit the same. Totally stuck at the first real encounter with the Alien. Very depressing.

In my case it is not even the alien, but some humans. I have to deactivate some generator but I can't figure out how to do what before getting killed ...

I remember that part.

You need to sneak in to the room, press the button to turn off the lights then look straight down and you'll see a trap door on the floor to escape the room

I finished it and thoroughly enjoyed it. The alien encounters are superb and the trip below the engine room was terrifying. An awful lot of it didn't make sense though.

Lots of eggs - no queen?? Why the hell were there random eggs placed in very odd locations; near vents, far away from the nest? The films suggest the aliens bring the humans to the eggs for fertilisation.

Well it's most likely a
Prometheus ship since the movie did mention there are many others alike, so it could well be from the same fleet that departed from their home world.
This is why I wished that section could be developed a bit further.
