Afrika new trailer @ TGS

its hard to beleive thats realtime, wow. and we still have no idea wtf the game is.
the attention to detail is amazing.

This is worth just watching as a movie at home if it's expanded!! Amazing!

I wonder if you just play an observer?

Or you get to be the prey/hunter in certain scenarios.

Speng.

The Cheetah doesn't look that good, but then the grass he's walking in ... Sometimes you have to really pay close attention to tell that it's not real. Those zebra are incredible, as are the elephants. Wow.

Actually... it's an online chat/forum platform where animal avatars roam and exchange phone numbers. Think of Budweiser advertisements ...with talking animals. I would like to map the environment to B3D and watch them talk about fake HDR and low res textures.

... Are you serious? :???:

If so, that's definitely.. something different...

That footage is awesome. It really looks amazing. The waving grass was really beautiful. However, the animal behaviour is not correct at times, e.g. hippo and rhino.

Very well done. The foliage is very nice, the models are not terribly high-poly (nothing to sneeze at either), but the shading (fur, skin, ...) and animation sell them very convincingly. The scene with the hundreds of animals-whose-name-i-dont-know is also stunning.
I still can't see a game in it, though.

It's not meant to be a game, from what I remember. You're literally just meant to leave it running and watch it, roaming around.

Jawed

so it's a screen saver:smile: , well if that's the case I hope they don't charge the same price as a game

That was a rumor but I think it was debunked. Right now it seems to be leaning toward virtual safari, photo battle type of deal, but no one seems to have any hard details on the thing.

they call it wildbeest or gnu on animal planet. where are the lions? the lions i need!
visually it totally owns.

Virtual safari it is. :)

You're the head of Sony's worldwide development studios. What the hell is up with that Africa game?

Video games have a function in life, and that is: wish fulfillment. You can become a mercenary, a fighter pilot. On PS3, we can expand the realm of that experience. Africa allows you to experience a very interesting part of the world, a safari in the plains of Africa. The gameplay is entirely non-violent. You don't kill the animals. It emphasizes the positives rather than the negatives.

It's about collecting experiences and keeping them for posterity.

What's up with the guy riding in the Jeep, shown at the end of the trailer?

That's you. Or rather, that's one of the people you'll control. (He stops himself from saying anything else.)

Zebra's.

This game is highly intriguing. Nintendog's meets Animal Crossing meets GT4 Photomode?
