About contrast ratio on LCD

I read this article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Contrast_ratio about contrast ratio and after reading the part Dynamic contrast ratio I started wondering how do i know when the contrast ratio is good (if I'm only looking at specs).

Could it say on the specs that it's got a contrast ratio of 10.000:1 and be inferior in contrast to another one that says 1600:1 even if they both say dynamic ?

How can I compare since most specs are lacking all the information?

Unfortunately all you can hope for is that someone has done a review with measurements for any units that you're interested in. Claims about contrast ratio on the box have little bearing on reality, especially when comparing between manufacturers.

Contrast ratio is the measurement of the difference in brightness from the darkest to brightest portion on the screen. Most maanufacture should have list this as a main feature of a lcd monitor.
