A part-time 3D Architect?

Fuz

Regular
We all know that Garry Tarolli is now a part-time 3d architect at nVidia.

If 3Dfx is considered by many to be the company that kickstarted consumer 3D hardware accelerators, then Garry Tarolli would be considered a pioneer in this industry. Also, we can thank Garry T. for bringing us AA sooner rather than later to the gaming hardware market.

Personally, I would expect a person of his background to be more than a "part-time" employee of any company. Also, I would expect him still to be on the forefront of his field. Sort of disappointing imo. Anyway, I am getting sidetracked.

A few questions. What is a 3D architect and what does he/she do? Are there many working for the major companies, or is this a very unique position?

And realistically, would Garry Tarolli have had any significant input in to the design of the NV30?

Almost forgot.... Typedef Enum, how is that interview coming along?

Reverend, I read it here actually. So he is not part-time then?
So what would his job be exactly? I still don't know what a 3D architect does for a company?

Typedef, I hope it happens soon, I am really looking forward to it.

Hehe. RussSchultz, thanks.... my knowledge is growing by the day.

Any one in the industry kind enough to enlighten me?

here's an out-of-the-industy guess:

the equivalent of system analyst in sw engineering.

He does the same things he did at 3dfx. Only he actually has a "real" boss this time :)

I suppose your next question is "what did he do at 3dfx?", right?

I don't know if I'm thinking of Gary or Kurt Akeley, but one of them is a part time nvidia employee because they're also working on a Phd.

A simplified explanation is the term architect generally describes someone who does or is involved in the high level design. They spec out features, memory organization, the number of pipes and how they work, etc., but someone else handles the actual vhdl or verilog coding and layout.

I m confused with "3d architect" rank too, focus on software or hardware dev?I remember when 3dfx founded,Brian Hook is the only hardware Engineer, that means Gary/Scott both r software expert?

Haha, am I that transparent? I am pretty sure he was VP and CTO, but that could mean a number of things. Well, if you don't mind Rev, yes.... what did he do at 3dfx?

Oops, missed that one. Thanks.
