400 K ps3 in USA, 100 K ps3 in Japan at launch

I can't imagine the early adopters keen to spend £400 on a PS3 will look on Wii as a fair replacement. They're two very different machines mostly for different markets, at least at these price points. Will someone who wants next-gen games and HD movies and the other stuff spend their money instead on a far cheaper Wii? Whereas XB360 + HDDVD drive does represent a similar device at a similar price.

I don't think any of this comes as any sort of surprise. The low blue laser production has been know for a while. I think things are even worse than what they say right now. I would not be surprised if there are less than a million total units by the end of the calender year. Nintendo has to laughing thier asses off right about now. They will have a free and clear holiday season for the wii in japan and europe. First the pokemon bomb will hit in a few weeks then the Wii unopposed god damn nintendo is looking good right now in japan. Sony is trying their hardest to give away the video game market I just hope some one does. A company so cocky and arogant deserves to get knocked off the top spot.
I base it more on (Expectations + Marketing) / Number of Units Sold. Certainly there have been bigger flops...

It really depends. If that's an exclusive and, I agree. But otherwise I don't know. In my case the priority lies on games. I was pretty much set on buying a Wii and one of the two graphical powerhorse consoles. After Sony announcement I might go for a X360 console instead of a PS3.

relax dude, its only a console and only moved like 4 months.. its not the end of the world.. btw, in 4 years time, everybody will laugh about it ....
I am relaxed, I'm just disappointed and that is all. I'm getting my PS3 by the end of 2007 (IF IT EVEN GETS RELEASED BY THEN IN EUROPE) so this doesn't affect me. However it really makes me worried, I like Sony and the Playstation and this could easily ruin them. Biggest seller for Playstation was that it had all kinds of games, what if developers start to run away from PS3 and we only see FPS games, sigh.. Well I'll be getting my PS3 just for MGS4, FFXIII and Heavenly sword anyway so In the end it doesn't matter. Wherever the MGS and FF series are, I'm there.
This might not kill PS3 per se but it seriously makes a huge difference. We might laugh at this 4 years down the road, but I ain't laughing at the moment and I wouldn't laugh if the same happened to Wii or would have happened to Xbox360. Its just bleh.

I love the spin laugh it off in 4 years. Will I be able to walk into a store in 4 years and get a ps3 lol? I really really hope for a back lash against sony they deserve to lose. Being top dog so long is not good for the industry. The only reason sony thinks they can get away with all this crap is because they have been on top so long.
Err what? If the company offers you a good system with good library of games, they deserve to get "back lashed" and destroyed? I guess that makes sense if you are rooting for Nintendo Or Microsoft..with ****** glasses that is.
Sony basically made gaming where it stands now, so give them some respect. But its only natural that people will flame the leader, god knows for what reason.

No that would be nintendo they raised the gaming industry from the dead in the 80's. The PS3 game library is weak compared to the 360,wii and DS for atleast the next 6 months. The PS3 might be a good system when there are good games out for it and the price comes way down.
I am rooting for anyone but sony right now. A change at the top of the industry would be a good thing for all gamers. If sony loses now you bet your ass the PS4 will be a much better system at a more reasonable price.
If "all" they've lost is a million units, then why aren't they launching, say, Dec. 17th in Europe, to catch at least the tail end of christmas buying for the hip hardcore in Europe? Or even, say Jan 3 in Europe, for those who have some Christmas gift certificates laying around they could put to that purpose? If Euro PS3 hardcore types knew there was a Jan. 3 launch, they could at least start begging for gift certificates instead from their near & dear . .
