3DS post-release impressions *spawn

Did anyone here try that Dinosaurs Combat game? Just looked at a bunch of screens and it's actually not half bad looking. I figure since it has Dinosaurs in it, it can't be completely rubbish.

It's by Ubi Soft....

And holy crap, that thing does look like the American Godzilla!

Sigfried1977: Dinosaurs is impressive. It looks good. The problem is in game play...your hitting the same button to attack that one attack move :p You run around finding other dino's … its really a game for little kids.. but the visuals are excellent. In my opinion.

Bought Ridge Racer.. im disappointed.

review of the nyko power pak

using nintendogs

3D on, brightness maximum, wireless on:
Nyko Power Pak +: 5:33
3DS battery: 2:52

3D off, brightness at minimum, Power-Saving on, wireless off:
Nyko Power Pak +: 9:04*
3DS battery: 4:40

Its a shame it seems like nintendo should have made the device a little larger to fit a bigger battery in.

Anyway for those who need it i believe this is $30 with the new dock to fit the larger battery in. Not a bad deal if you need the time increase.

Why are they using power save mode with minimum brightness? Isnt that going to waste battery power rather then save it?

A little bit? It makes the whole assembly about 20% thicker by the looks of it. Any idea if there's a 3DS XL in the works? At DSi size I have no hope of playing it without serious RSI.

^Why would it? Powersave doesn't override the brightness settings.

Power save must take some power when enabled though and it cant be saving the system any power if the screen is already on minimum brightness (unless it enables a setting below the normal minimum).

Power save affects the colors of the screen. You lose a bit of definition in really bright and really dark areas and the whole image gets tinted a bit yellow-ish. It doesn't really appear to further lower the brightness, though. Maybe it also limits Wifi signal strength and max sound volume, I don't really know.

Yeah, it only makes the 3DS a little bit bigger.

This should give you a clue how thick it is.

Its a third party device , if nitnendo designed the system with a larger battery in mind they could have done it easily

I would have liked to see nintendo make a thinner but wider battery the length of the bottom plate of the 3ds . I bet they could have come to almost double the capacity

But how much space is there really between the cartridge slot and the casing? Surely even a slim battery going right accross the bottom of the system would have meant making the system that much thicker.

Yeah, I know it's a 3rd party device. I'm just saying the extra bulk added by this thing isn't as bad as it looks. I mean, the original DS Phat was bigger and still very portable device. I don't have very big hands and even I found devices too thin kind of annoying to hold, so I don't mind a little extra thickness added to it.

What do you guys think they can do with a 3DS Lite? Can they slim down the system and get a better battery life from it? Can they shrink it down further? I don't see the point of making it smaller to be honest.

The problem with the pack for me personaly is it will no longre fit in my front pocket of my jeans.

Anyway a 3DS lite would most likely come in the form of a new screen (cheaper or less power usage) with most likely a die shrink of the internal chips.

I think mabye we would get a bigger top screen there is alot of space up there

I played with one at a gamestop to kill some time but Street Fighter was the only game they had running on it. First off for some odd reason the 3D effect isn't used on the cinematics which is a bit disappointing also one annoying feature of the game was in dynamic camera mode you still press right and left to move forward and back instead of the more intuitive in the direction you are facing and way from it.

Now on to the 3DS screen. It suffers from moving your head slightly to the left or right messes with effect causing ghosting then pop back to 3d as you move further alternating in this manner vertical movement was fine though. . Also I was pleasantly surprised to see less planing of the 3d then I feared here would be, The character models were fully in encompassed by the effect as were the stages themselves with only some background elements in the stage suffering from the pop-up book effect.

Xenus i've found the more i've used the 3D the less of an issue its become. I have no idea why this is however

I wonder if it's become less of an issue or your subconsciously adapting by not moving your head side to side or tilting the machine side to side at all.
