2009 platform CONSOLE exclusives!

I think Shifty's making it easy by saying that every game that comes out is exclusive regardless of whether it's multi-platform or not. Which makes lists like these pointless...

I don't see how it's unreasonable to have a list of console exclusives in the console forum.....

Given the low impact of pc gamers on the mainstream market (excluding WoW of course) it seems perfectly valid. The vast majority of console gamers do not game on pc or are they even remotely concerned with the pc as a gaming platform, though I am willing to bet that a large portion or even majority of pc gamers also own a console. I see no reason to discredit a console exclusive regardless of whether or not the title is also available on the pc.

Did anyone really consider FFVII a multiplatform title even though it released on the pc??

Well, this is the console forum, maybe we should assume this is the 2009 CONSOLE exclusives thread? PC's getting tons of ports these days anyway, at some point down the line. Even Capcom's doing it.

I'd like to know your opinions about Gran Turismo , Uncharted , God of War and others like these ...

I don't think these are on the same boat with titles like Gears of War [ first one ] , Mass Effect , Left 4 Dead etc ... Because you can play these games even if you dont have X360 ... So calling these games exclusive makes no sense to me ... This is my point of view to exclusivity ... No need to argue ...

You could have made your point without the eye roll as well.

Does anyone know the tentative release time frame for GOW III?

This is pedantic. So, since GT4 is coming to the PSP in a few months, we cannot call GT an exclusive, I guess? We can safely assume GT5 will come to the PSP or PSP2 eventually, after all.

God of War also came to the PSP, although it's not identical, it's close enough (e.g. as we can say Mario came to the DS). To take your phrase, "I can play God of War without a PS2 or PS3."

Another of your examples, Viva Pinata, also came to the PC and DS.

As for Dead or Alive, DOA Code Cronus was in the works before Itagaki left the building. No idea what its current status is.

Bottom line, this is the console forum. It's implicit that we're talking about console exclusivity. Leave the PC and handhelds out of it.

I meant the vaporware version. There are some hot looking new screenshots in the PC Games forum. That would be an interesting 2009 announcement.

Oh, that's Duke Nukem Forever. I had the feeling that'd be multiplat for some reason. I mean, if they ever set a date.

They still remain console exclusive where as of course one cannot play the titles you mentioned on pc that doesnt overly affect the console market. I personally cannot see excluding console exclusivity because a pc version may appear simultaneously or in the future of the initial console release. Gears and ME didnt appear on the pc for months or a year after wards of their initial release.

I just think that if we are talking about exclusive titles then they should be available on one platform only, that would make them exclusive. As soon as you transfer across to another platform you are no longer exclusive regardless of the size\impact of it's demographic.

It's just a argument about semantics. If we are saying that the 360 and the PC are one platform and that platform is Windows Live then we should start including all the PC titles that support that platform as well.

So by that standard, Gran Turismo and God of War aren't exclusives... so what are we left to discuss? Uncharted and Lost Odyssey and a handful of other games?

To me, PC is just another Microsoft platform, as the PSP is to Sony. Neither is a console, so neither affect the exclusivity discussion.

Alan Wake is both PC and xbox360 so exclusive sounds wrong with this one since it is released for 2 different platforms.

Well this is a console forum so I am sure it is pretty valid to call it an exclusive for the console. Besides some titles are a great asset to exist for a console as an exclusive even though it is also on PC. I dont think the latter is competing the PS3 and 360 neck to neck either.

Alan wake could be a system seller for the 360 and a great showcase of its technical performance. And it will not be available on competitive consoles.

Forrest for trees fellas.

If we want to be touchy about cross-hardware (but same-platform owner) "exclusivity" then we need to broach the topic of the point of discussing "exclusivity" to begin with. Which to a high degree is about platform marketing and positioning--and when viewed from a market approach PC-360 titles might as well be exclusives. MS owns the platforms (Windows Gaming and Xbox) and has fostered through relationships, tools, and marketing PC-360 development. This has lead to a large number of PC developers to migrate to the Xbox space and bring former PC-only titles to the Xbox (and in many cases to the 360 and NOT to the PS3 or Wii). And seeing as MS owns the Windows and Xbox platforms a PC-360 exclusive (i.e. not on the Wii and not on the PS3) is effectively an exclusive for MS because the game only serves to buttress the platforms they control.

Which from a company position what an exclusives does for the bottom line is what matters. It does MS no good to make a game XBOX ONLY, and exclude the PC, if only for the purpose to claim "ABSOLUTE EXCLUVITY!" Judging PC gaming sales the constant harping on this topic by some seems pointless: PC sales are small for these titles 9 times out of 10 AND in most cases the presence of the title on the PC does little to nothing to hurt the 360 sales (the fact the 360 GOT the title is the point, especially considering the point that maybe the 360 might not have if MS had not fostered a strong PC-360 relationship).

Of course the simple route is just to admit the consoles are, for the most part, their own market space with much smaller overlap with the PC market--the PC market being very small at that relative to console gaming hardware and console oriented software sales.

Stomping the feet about the inclusion of PC titles in Xbox Console exclusives is so 2003!

Of course a PC oriented tech forum like B3D will often ignore these points because it is more common here than elsewhere that someone may have a gaming PC and a console. But in general that isn't the case.

I think we're overthinking it. No one counts PC exclusives when counting 'exclusives', because this is all about the Console War (list wars at their finest!). PCs aren't in the War.

As to the God of War comment above, that's really confused. If GT4 comes out on PSP and it's the same game, then yeah, it's not exclusive. But God of War Chains of Olympus isn't God of War 1 or 2. Different games.

That's not PC whatever relationship, that's just reality of delayed exclusives regardless where they get ported to. Look back at PS2 and its LTD best sellers - outside for the lone 1st party game or two, nothing in top 30 is exclusive.

But back on topic, Huxley is a PC exclusive(and a failed one at that). The company will probably completely close down(if they haven't already) long before they manage to produce something playable on 360.
