Nvidia Nforce4 vs Intel 955x

According to this Anand article Nvidia's new chipset is giving Intel's 955x a run for it's money. Would be ironic if Nvidia gained significant marketshare in the Intel space....

Not really. There's no reason why other companies can't make a chipset as good or possibly even better then Intel's.

Beyond3D is not the kind of board where you just spout ignorant and controversial remarks with no basis in fact to back anything up. Why don't you try IGN for example if that is the general level of discourse you're aiming at?

Couple of things here....
1) doesn't look like nForce for IBM supports dualcore
2)looks like the nForce for IBM will only be made for SLI, so there will not be any cheap MBs.....that's really going to hurt any attempt at market penetration, and
3)Looks to be quite expensive compared to Intel's own chipset.

I don't know about prices yet but if you compare an AMD SLI board to the even most generic crap intel board then the SLI boards is still cheaper.
Question is how much does nvidia have to pay for the licence.

You've already heard that NVIDIA's nForce4 SLI Intel Edition chipset costs about $80, but what about Intel's 955X and 945? For once, Intel is actually the cheaper alternative - their 955X costs motherboard manufacturers $50 ($53 with ICH7R), while the 945P costs a mere $38. For motherboard prices, this means that you can expect at least a $30 price premium for a nForce4 SLI Intel Edition board compared to a 955X board; compared to a 945P, you can expect closer to a $40 price premium. It's not tremendous, but given that motherboards tend to hover in the low $100s, even a $30 difference is significant.

There was some speculation in the article about Nvidia providing lower cost non-SLI solutions in the future to directly compete with Intel. Now that they already have a license is there anything Intel can do to prevent them from taking them on head on? Or is it in Nvidia's best interest to play nice?

I noticed nvidia marketing SLi for Intel on their website now. Last time I heard SLi on the Intel chipset offered a measily 5-10% improvement for some reason. Anyone know if this has been fixed?

Of course....it's not nice to piss off the biggest gorilla in the cage.......
