Some Xbox 360 and PS3 questions

I completed God of War 3 and started Ascension. In Eurogamer article author said what in this game graphics was made better, but I can't agree. Textures ar lower resolution, effects not so good, materials look worse and there is more aliasing. In 3rd developers made amazing materials, especially marble. Levels become bigger, but if that was trade-off, I'd prefer they made game similar to 3rd and maybe improved graphics as much as possible. What do you think guys? Maybe I don't understand something, but I can't say what Ascension looks better or even have same graphics level. Maybe I miss something?

Completed Killzone 2. Haven'gt played it since release in 2009. And again I was shocked. Game looks very good even today. Geometry level is very high, effects superb, lighting on very hing level, amazing soft shadows what is better than even in some ps4 games, dynamic skybox, very good particles and just amazing amount of them (sparks from shooting to metal have multiple bounces from surfaces), 3d water. Very great weapons, what looks better than in many modern games, especially good looks lighting on weapons. Post processing effects also on top level. And also amount of things happening on screen is so high, that I can't even understand how they made that possible on 2006 console. Only weak point is textures resolution, but I think that was max what they could've done in that game.
Now Started Killzone 32, but I only completed some first missions. But every aspect of game is higher. Geometry lovel is a lot higher, effects, post processing and lighting are on next level, shadows still very good, there are big improvements for backgrounds and skybox, 3d water is on on next level, but biggest improvement in my opinion is particles. There are a lot more particles, and it's hard to belive, because in previous game that amout already looked beyond PS3 capabilities. But also particles have a more complex trajectories. Even sparks with bounces from surfaces haven't been removed from game. This is just unbelivable achievement.
Also some question. I found pdf about KZ3 development.
On first picture there is info about KZ2. Can anyone tell is game realy was rendered in 2560x720p?
Second picture is comparison from KZ3. But on third there is as I understand memory footprint. Does KZ3 realy use only 93 MB from main RAM and 151 MB from video RAM? THat can't be true.

I'm unsure if they are talking about the MSAA hardware or a higher resolution RT downsampled. Lighting is calculated at 1280x720 in shaders. So I think there's aspects of calculating 2560 x 720 samples for some aspects, and lower resolutions for others.

That looks to be RAM use only for rendering. On the left there's another 50 MB for heap, and there'll be more RAM used for audio, code, streaming, etc.

I completed MGS 4. (Played that befor but just start of the game). Also this is first MGS I completed. I can say graphics is still good in MGS 4, but for 2008 that was top level. I think only REsistance 2 was better, but that game was released in fall. Also I can compare MGS 4 to Gears of War 2, also released later that year. MGS 4 wins in almost every aspect. Character models have more polygons, have better textures, amazing cloth simulation, (it looks incredible even today), environment also lookes better. I think it have less polygons, bet textures are a lot better, especially metal constructions. MGS have better lighting, and have shadows. This is very strange, but there is no shadows in Gears 1 and 2.
Cut scenes in my opinion better that in 90% tooday games. And in 2008 they were best. I completed almost all mayor games of that gen, and didn't thought what some game from that gen can surprise me.
Also the idea of suit changing colors depending of surface is still only in MGS 4.

I owned both consoles back then, but I personally preferred Gears of War 2 during gameplay. MGS4 shined in Cut Scenes but during gameplay, GoW2 was better looking in my eyes.

Of course gameplay is better in Gears 2, an graphics also very good, but (in my opinion), graphics in MGS 4 is way ahead. :)
At first yes, Gears 2 graphics during gameplay looks better, bet if you look closely at MGS 4graphics, you start to notice a lot of moments what is better.

I completed MGSV Groud Zeros some days ago. Graphics better in every aspect. Very good looking game for PS3. Then I started MGSV The Phantom Pain. It's even better. Prologue lloks like one of the best games on PS3. In open world graphics less impressive, but still very good. In general amazing result and game also uses physically based rendering. I also have question. I completed Beyond Two souls for the first time some month ago and in my opinion this is game with best graphics on PS3. Looks almost like PS4 game. I liked many graphical features but most amazing is reflections. No SSR at all an those a in same resolution as other stuff. Very sad what today's games doesn't have same reflection anymore. Also looks like Beyond Two Souls also uses PBR. Can anyone tell if this is true?
