Switch 2 Speculation

AFAIK, It was rumoured to have mouse functionality, the video showed a camera on the joy-con that is useless for waggle control but works for an optical mouse, and they were shown as mice...

From a post on famiboards it looks like it's has 12 RT cores. I wonder what type of performance we can expect with 12 cores?
Famiboards post:

I just tried my switch 1's right joycon on it's side and it was plenty ergonomic and I could easily press all buttons. I don't think it will be an issue. Especially with Switch 2 Joycons being bigger.
There will definitely be very limited ray tracing power here. And it's not cuz it only has 12 RT cores, it's more than it's only 12 SM's and limited bandwidth and power. Ray tracing still relies a lot on the traditional compute power, and the tradeoffs for using ray tracing in a limited power system are just too extreme to imagine it'll be used in anything except outlier cases.

As for the joycons, I also tried it, that's why I made my post. The only button that's really all that usable in a very controlled manner while still moving the joycon around in a precise and controlled way is the shoulder button. To be fair, maybe that'll be enough for the limited applications it'll be used for on Switch, but if you're gonna be asked to do anything more than that, it'll be very, very suboptimal.

In mouse mode, the controller will be tall and thin and so well stabilised when you can't rely on e.g. a desk surface.

This means you can easily get away with using something like the arm of your sofa or your thigh when you're sat down.

Not great for playing Quake, but for substituting for a touch screen for stuff like menus or using a browser it'll be fine. Could also be good for various mini games in something like Wii Sports or Luigi Party games or Swingers Club or whatever a creative developer might come up with.

The 576p res of Mario kart without antialiasing is a bit strange. I don't believe that it will come out looking like that.

540p to 1080p in portable with DLSS and 900p to 1440p, again, with DLSS, should be within reach of the hardware for those graphics.

Yeah it seems the closest equivalent is the RTX 2050 with 16 RT cores? S2 has triple the RAM size which should help compared to the 2050.

Yeah I think it will be for specific games or small mini games. Not required.

I was surprised to see the ROG Ally perform so well with Ray Tracing enabled and it doesn't have any Ray Tracing cores or DLSS. Between 20fps to 60fps with modern games.

Is the mouse discussion because of the "reveal" animation where the controllers seem to skid over some surface? 🤷🏼‍♂️
People freaking out and raging about the design and joy cons keep forgetting that the Switch user base is massive, with the vast majority being kids and young teenagers. Good grief.

A 12 year old kid that mostly plays on an iPhone or iPad will probably find the new Switch really fun and engaging. They don't have decades of experience playing PC games as a point of comparison.

If you want precise mouse controls: play your PC.
If you want high fidelity 4K games: play your PC.
If you don't like the bezels: That didn't stop you from buying Switch [1]. Get over it, or wait for the OLED Switch 2.
If you don't like the joy cons: Buy a controller.

Any data on that? I recall this one from 2022:

It's clearly not exact as it's a self-selecting birth year count, but there's clearly a lot more adults than children playing. Or at least there was in 2021.

All the articles I'm finding are written by people who don't know the difference between a memory bus and a tour bus. Is this 64bit or 128bit? I know they say it's 2 channels but there are differing definitions of channels.

It would be nice if they have an OLED version with smaller bezels at launch, but I doubt that. Unit looks nice, but just as uncomfortable to hold for any duration as the first Switch. An aftermarket grip is a must for my hands anyway, although I mostly played docked.

Yeah I’ve seen this before. But without any description of how they sampled this, I didn’t find it helpful. Unless there’s been an update or release on how they got this data?
I don't believe this data either. If you are a child you probably aren't using your own account, you are using one created by your parent. The distribution is probably fairly linear until 24 years old, where it drops off.

Probably have to wait at least a year for an OLED revision.

Or several years if sales are high for the first couple of years.
