Switch 2 Speculation

That trailer isn't very good. Project from a CGI artist made in two weeks vibes.

Should have shown some big game like red dead redemption 2 on the screen, to give the impression that the power jump from the switch is there, instead they show Mario kart.

Not the best first impression, but that will not matter much.

Congratulations to everyone who wait Switch 2! I will buy Switch 2 day one.
Charlietus they showed Mario Kart instead of RDR 2 because that game is system seller and there will be sold ~10x more Mario Kart copies than RDR 2. Most of people who play on Nintendo consoles doesn’t bother about how many TFlops that console have. If you know Nintendo and they’re fans you should probably know that. :)

They could have shown more than one game honestly

Sebbi's comment on the Switch 2 specs.
Seems exactly as I expected: PS4 equivalent handheld performance. PS4 Pro equivalent docked performance. That's pretty good for a handheld with great battery life.
Lower bandwidth than PS4 and PS4 Pro. But this is Ampere vs GCN2, so it has better delta compressors and doesn't need to flush L2$ at almost every barrier. Also Nvidia has a binning rasterizer which saves some raster bandwidth vs GCN2.

I think it looks great. Huge jump in performance, nice overall package without being too cumbersome, and great evolution of the controller (and more ergonomic for people with big 'ands).

The GPU seems to be very anemic. 2 RTX cores do not seem to be forward looking, also no FG, is this real ?

It doesn't have the Optical Flow Accelerator's of later architectures, so it won't support Nvidia frame gen. No reason it can't use software frame gen like FSR though. If you're targetting 60 or 30 fps, FG will probably be of more limited use though.

Well with these specs, not much point in going for 1440p or 2160p.
If they are going to be cost sensitive about h/w so much then it only makes sense.

ROG Ally seems to have similar memory bandwidth figures and 1080p resolution

Are you joking? What 720p 1080p in 2025?
An 8" 1080p screen viewed from 12" away has the same pixels per degree(59ppd) as a 27" 1440p monitor sitting 2.5ft away.

So unless you think 1440p is a terribly low resolution for a 27" monitor from that distance, then 1080p is very good for a device like Switch 2.

Like with Switch 1, actual game rendering resolutions and whether games use decent AA(or any at all...) or reconstruction will be making the biggest difference in terms of image quality. Honestly, I think even a 720p display would have been alright again given the detune that the GPU and memory will get when running in portable mode.
