Movie Reviews 2.0

Some genre flicks I watched recently and recommend:
The Substance: My movie of the Year. This is a lot to take in. And then some. All sorts of awesome on all levels.
The Coffee Table (La Mesita Del Comedor): A compact movie about personal tragedy but OMG OMG OMFG. Darkest of dark. If you think this is funny you're right and also you should probably be on some FBI watch list.
Alien Romulus: Competently executed fan service with just a sprinkling of fresh ideas. Cailee Spaeny.
The Passenger: An understated thriller starring the always interesting Kyle Gallner. Once it gets going you're in for a hell of a ride.

Watched The Substance. I thought it was great, but the ending sequence kind of didn't work for me. It was sort of hilarious, but it kind of took me out of the fact that the movie had serious subject matter underneath the surreal style and premise.

The new Nosferatu movie has received a lot of positive reviews.

I seen the silent version a while ago on Prime. And it is basically just like Dracula, and has a similar eerie feel, but they had to change aspects of the story to a degree, along with the names of the characters therein. This was to avoid a copyright lawsuit.

The 2000 film Shadow of the Vampire is a fun Nosferatu story. Oddly enough, it also stars Willam DeFoe, that time as the vampire. Er, sorry, make that Max Schreck. Not a vampire, goodness no, just a very serious method actor.
