[360] Forza Motorsport 3

The trailer blew me away as the car model graphics quality is easily as good as GT5 and the enviornments look fantastic.Im also impressed that the game will be running at a full 60 fps.The 360 has a damn good Fall line-up of exclusive games

Looking at the in-game footage, lighting while in-game is definitely downgraded, and much more like Forza 2. The cars still bleach out when reflecting light. I don't think this has 'real' HDR? Lighting in in-car view seems even more flat. Still 8 cars on track also, it seems. I like the art-design on this track in general - Forza has always been pretty good at that - and the cars look a bit better than in Forza 2, though in-game I don't think the cars have that many polys to be honest, 100.000 maybe including cockpit? It's in the presentation screens where the cars clearly have a lot of detail. Not that this is greatly important - for me all Forza needs to do is nail the driving model a little bit better than they have before.

Only 8 cars right now is my biggest gripe with the game I think, and the lighting in-game next.

In Forza 2 they tried artistical lighting effects, to pronounce some colors and making certain things more visible for artistical and gameplay effects. I hope they dont do this in FM3, i think GT's approach with trying to be photorealistic is much more interesting for a racing sim.

Most impressive, lets see if final GT5 can match the environments and lighting aswell as effects. And this Forza 3 is at 60 fps?

I don't know about the environemnt, but I still think GT lighting and cars shaders is better.

Well, what I compared was replay to replay. I haven't seen an ingame video, as from behind the car...
If you get one, could you direct me please ?

GT has the edge on photorealism. Forza 3 looks like a computer game. Not that thats necessarily a bad thing - if it looked like GT people could confuse the 2! The cars still haven't got the believable shading of GT. That doesn't stop F3 being a formidable game though.

Would be interesting to know if F3 replays are 60fps or 30fps like GT5 replays.

The gamersyde video linked above is ingame and has both behind the car and cockpit view. And the lighting in GT5 is better in both the replay mode and in the in-game mode. But I didn't want to get into those comparisons too much, just instead try to discuss where Forza 3 is an improvement over 2, and where it is still very similar.

You might have seen to many DOF replay shots.

F3 looks very realistic this way to as GT5..

Ingame is another reality though for both..

Really nice though about the car reflections, shaders and high resolution mirror details.

A big reason would be twice the time to render the screen for improved graphics. Think GRID vs Forza 2.

GRID is an arcade racer and can thus get away with 30fps.

Below 60fps for simulation racers is unnacceptible. This view is shared by Turn 10 aswell (one of their key missions in making FM2 better than FM1) and this game will surely be 60fps aswell.

It's a reason and a compelling one. 60fps doesn't show up in screen shots and most players don't appreciate it.
