Xbox360: Splitting the userbase at launch?

I don't know about you guys but me buying a 360 at launch is off the table, no standard hard drive=No buy same with PS3 Sony and Microshaft are shooting themselves in the head on this one. Now consoles will never surpass the PC platform, so so stupid.

Once it's down to 199.99 with the hard drive mahybe I'll buy in, unilt then it's PC gaming for me once again, how sad Microsoft way to let your fans down.

Yes, because we all know what is most important to our gaming experience. Who cares about the games when you don't even need a memory card? -_-

Did you actually believe a $300 gaming console would surpass a $1500+ gaming PC?

Consoles are the ultimate budget gaming systems. Extremely powerful for the price, but you do get what you pay for, and they will always be behind high end PC's.

Man, I entirely missed this one. It's going to cost at the very least an extra $39.00 for the 64MB memory card or an extra $100.00 up front on the premium package to achieve BACKWARD COMPATIBILITY. Not only do we have to pay extra for an HDD we also have to pay extra for backward compatibility. Two things that MS seemed to suggest would be included with every X360. You would think that they would at least throw in a memory unit on the core package to achieve some backward compatibility.

-aldo :-?

Yeah this sux. They haven't got monopoly on console market yet, and they pull this, imagine the day they control the console market like OS. I mean I thought Sony and Nintendo was pretty cocky in their days of dominance. I suppose MS don't become the most profitable company for nothing.

Good thing I don't game as much anymore, it seems as you get older, you start to lose alot of interest in gaming. Nintendo better have something good up their sleeve, if not I am going to be a casual gamer.

Don't know if anyone else has posted this but I just got an e-mail through from Gameplay for XBox 360 pre Order:

£209.99 Core
£279.99 Premium

Not bad at all :)

aye my cousin is very exicted payed off the core package yesterday but its a bit of a drive for him from italy . But the prices are lower so he felt it was worth it

I'm sorry, but I can't help feeling like I just walked into Mcdonald's, bought a hamburger, only to have the guy say,"Oh yeah, by the way, the top bun is a buck extra". I guess it's not going to do much good complaining at this point, but I really don't see how anyone can avoid feeling at least slightly shafted, now that they have to fork over an extra hundred bucks if they want hi def capability and a wireless controller for their "new system that's built around hi def, wireless, and always connected".

Well i'm just looking at the Premium package and thinking that's a very good price for the latest console before it's even got competition! Wasn't the PS2 £399 when it first came out (admitidly in very limited numbers) in the UK? Plus you only got one conteoller and had to spend another £30 on a memory card :(

It's just like all those bundles they sell with extra controllers, or memory cards, or DVD remotes. It's just like the previous generation, sure you can buy the standard console but without a memory card you can't save your progress and without more controllers you can't play with your friends.

To be honest I'm totally shocked, I really thought it would be £350 in the UK, at least until the PS3 is out.

Nope, PS2 was £299 with one controller and no mem card.

When I bought my NES it was $99
when I bought my SNES it was $99
When I bought my GameCube it was $115 (including a memory card)
I got my PS2 for free but had to spend $40 to get a controller, used memory card and 1 game. I got another game for $20

I will not buy a console when it first comes out. I'll wait a year or two when the price comes down to $99 to $150 (I got my game cube in 2003).

It is worth the wait since I let all of the "I gotta have it" suckers pay the big $$ thus allowing me to get the console when it is a lot cheaper and the games are $20 apeice.
