Though I agree with your sentiments, remember to invlude TAX in calculations. Assuming EU countries have their local Sales/VAT tax included, you're looking at an extra 15-25% on top of the dollar price. $400 with average EU tax would be something like $480. Seems fair and reasonable. Of course I don't know if EU tax is added on top of this listed price, but it's certainly not the case in the UK and I'd be surprised.

For games I tend to buy from Play.com at £30 tops = €45 (BTW : How do you get a Euro sign with copy/pasting someone else's?!)

    I know.

I'm not comparing it to US prices without TAX, just pointing what's their equivalence in dollars. But, again, why should I feel excited when the european price is just par for the course?

What really annoys me is that MS it's treating its customers like idiots (or at least that's how I feel) and fragmenting their user base. They're launching in less than three months, and I hope that by then there's only one SKU or I'll be really pissed.

I have the same felling, as I said in other thread we will pay almost 500 to play singleplayer only (if you want a extra controler or Live will cost a lot more), it really brings interest down, for those how can afford be a gamer.

I guess it depends on your perspective. Ordinarily we're done by a considerable margin, show acutally being treated fairly for once should be a 'woohoo, we're getting a fair deal' excitement. But on absolute terms being told we should be pleased that we're being treated fairly condescending - we've no more reason to be or not be excited than NA as it's the same price.

I'm really happy with the price, but since I'm from Finland I'm not allowed to show it. But honestly the 400€ price is great compared to the more usual 500€ (which I paid for a PS2 without a memcard). And if I can use my USB HDD I could happily buy the 300€ box. If I counted right it would be more expensive for me to import an X360 form the US than to buy one here, and in my experience that's pretty rare with consoles.

You might as well be upset over it right now like everyone else because if you think things are going to change in 3 months, you're kidding yourself.

You should be excited because its a much better price then expect from a company like Microsoft. 399.99 Euro's = $486.60, however $399.99 plus 20% tax (standard in most European countries) equals $480. So Europe is actually getting equal pricing with the US (considering there will be other small overheads like shipping), which is not a usual thing for Microsoft.

Lacks Backward Compatibility Out Of The Box

    v3:
Man, I entirely missed this one. It's going to cost at the very least an extra $39.00 for the 64MB memory card or an extra $100.00 up front on the premium package to achieve BACKWARD COMPATIBILITY. Not only do we have to pay extra for an HDD we also have to pay extra for backward compatibility. Two things that MS seemed to suggest would be included with every X360. You would think that they would at least throw in a memory unit on the core package to achieve some backward compatibility.

    -aldo :-?

I really think Microsoft isn't done lying to their loyal fanbase.
Every time someone like Allard doesn't give a straight answer about Xbox 360, you just know he's trying to hide the awful truth. They duped people into expecting one SKU with HD and then give them the finger at the last possible moment. The prices for the peripherals are a joke. Fracturing the userbase is a joke, I dont want my games designed for the crippled version of 360.

MS is not to be trusted, I cannot believe they will stick to their word and have most games backward compatible, the BC effort will be dropped very soon after launch, with only a handful of games supported.

Don't you mean from the base price of the core system. NOT the premium package since it COMES with the hard drive?

pc999 what were the prices of the ps2 , gamecube , xbox , psone , saturn and n64 by u at launch ?

I'm wondering because what my cousin told me in italy is that its cheaper than any console he can remember at launch aside from the gamecube . But then again the gamecube was also cheaper here in the usa .

As far I remember I (myself unless I as too young and offered to me) I never bought a console at lauch, not untill we get a "fair"/lower price (something that 475 euros, from XB arent; I take the games that now I bought a a very low price as pay back, is not much but it is something), so XB it as 250 euros some months later (I belive 300-250$ at the time), and GameCube I think it get out at 200$ and 200 euros, but I must admit that now, as I get older I understand and worry much more with that (at 15-17 I didnt care much), beneficts from age, so talking about the past will not help me that much, anyway I got it at a " fair" price. Later than those I really dont remember, Sorry.

PS:Sorry for spelling etc..., it is very late here, tomorow I will reread.

    Its no problem .

Since the dreamcast i've learned to just put money down from the start. Its much easier that way .

For example i already had 300$ down on my xbox 360 just by putting down the inital 50$ and then 5$ a month till it was payed off . That way launch doesn't hurt as much... But damn that wifi device is pissing me off big time
