Xbox Video Chat will let up to five users communicate with each other on a TV screen simultaneously. The Xbox Video Chat kit, which will retail for 6,800 yen ($62), comes with a small video camera, the Xbox voice communicator, the Xbox Video Chat Disc, and an Xbox Live starter kit with 12 free months of Xbox Live.

The Xbox Video Chat comes with a number of features to spice up its communication functions, including sound effects, visual effects, voice alteration, and the ability to vibrate the other participants' controllers remotely. The Xbox Video Chat also comes with 40 preinstalled background music tracks and a function to turn the TV screen into a mirror temporarily, so players can groom themselves before joining a conversation.

Looks like another sell for Logitech there! Dang, now they only have Nintendo to sign up as OEM customer...

Wasn't there some rumors flying about about them releasing a cam?

I hope the cord really isn't short...

Yeah but are they *all* going to be Logitech?

My EyeToy isn't a Logitec (Mine's a Namtai) while some others are...

Whoa, so that's like the entire Japanese userbase. How bad ass is that.

...and the ability to vibrate the other participants' controllers remotely...

Good to Microsoft targetting the Japenese demographic yet again. As if the full size female pillows weren't enough...

;)

Haha, that was pretty funny. Seriously it was - and I like my Xbox.

My Toy is a Logitech, I checked that like the first day I bought it. :) Maybe the Toys in the west are Logitechs while Sony sources the eastern markets somewhere else (this Namtai-that-I-never-heard-of-before perhaps).

Xcam however LOOKS so totally like a Logitech I have a hard time imagining they could stuff something else inside that plastic shell and keep Logitech's lawyers off their back. :) Also, I would think MS wants just one source (and, the Box hardly sells in the east anyway, so... ;))

This could have some serious gambling potential. Strip poker anyone?

I can just see Bill Gates working from home goofing off yet still being at the morning meetings with a custom rig set up at home using the Xbox cam.

Is this thing coming stateside? If so, how long until the hacker and modder crowd take advantage of it?

That cam does look much better than the EyeToy one...

Remote Vibration = Genius. Only MS could think of something as outrageously rude as that. Which is a good thing! Shame it's only in Japan...

What a waste of that second controller port... I'd rather have 4 controller ports, and a seperate port for the camera... Oh well, I could as well unplug the camera to play with four people on Live of course. ;)

Four times the pleasure, which you can't measure!

There are sites where people exchange their IM names for people who have iSights or other webcams.

Then there are cell phones with photo or even video capabilities.

A new dimension to phone sex.

On a technical level, it's too bad people are settling for USB speeds, particularly in Japan where you can get 20 Mbps connections fairly cheaply.
