Xbox NXE Fall Update 2009 (with E3 announcements)

Hey, you can't blame them for wanting to savor some of the bigger updates. Plus, you also can't blame for not wanting to do all the updates at once. Just imagine the headache they'll have after this kind of update. :)

According to todays's press release...

The Zune Service Extends Across Microsoft Platforms
Later this fall, Zune video will expand to nearly 20 million Xbox LIVE users,
combining the Zune and Xbox video stores so consumers have access to more
content provided by Zune. With unified video catalogs on Zune and Xbox LIVE,
customers will have the ability to play purchased movies and TV shows across
Xbox, the PC and Zune HD. Zune will also be introducing new technology
enhancements in Xbox LIVE, providing a choice to download or instantly stream
HD video in full 1080p with 5.1 surround sound. In addition, the integrated
Zune video service will be rolled out later this fall to 17 international
markets
: Canada, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France,
Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Spain, Sweden,
Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

I wonder if you'll be able to pay in $ instead of MS points on the PC ...

I don't think so. Everything I've read so far was that the unified MS Points system for Xbox & Zune will be used. I believe MS is only allowing credit cards on content that's $20 or more. Makes sense since they don't have to worry about excessive cc fees for cheaper stuff.

I guess that means the dashboard update is coming with facebook, twitter etc.

Yeah, looks like it. Most likely November again. Will be interesting to see if they do the preview again.

MTV was the first to report from Microsoft's Open House event in NYC that the next dashboard update will get an early preview late this month & will include Facebook, Twitter & Last.fm support.

Kotaku, MTV & Joystiq have some hands-on with Facebook on 360...

Joystiq review has some new photos in action and also has some details regarding Twitter, Last.fm & Zune Marketplace.

Facebook sounds quite nicely integrated. I was hoping Last.FM would be integrated into the games. Hopefully they can figure that out. It'd be awesome.

MS announced @ E3 that Last.fm would be not be supported in-game, but a lot of outlets missed that tidbit.

All I want is the pricing details and release date of the new streaming video service.

I would be totally surprised if pricing is different. As for when, I would expect no later than the 2nd week of November. That is if the mid-to-late October timeframe for the preview is to be believed.

I'm filled out a survey for Microsoft/Nielsen about media(music, videos, TV, movies) playing on PC, console and mobile devices. It was more geared to your likes & dislikes of your current portable media player and what you want in a future device. But as I got toward the end it looks like it's for Zune Marketplace & Zune Pass. Here's one of the more interesting questions...

If Zune Pass was offered for the other content such as the ones below, how interested would you be in subscribing to this service?

Music videos
TV shows
Video games
Movies

I marked "Strongly Agree" for all 4. ;)
