Xbox Live 3.0... what can we expect?

My guesses (for gold):

* Free to Play games
* Group chat (8+)
* Video chat (Skype HD)
* Clans (achievements per clan)
* Game streaming, you can see the "channel" (as in TV) of your friends (what are they playing). Can be disabled.
* Can save game capture (video/screenshots)
* Xbox Music (basic)
* More apps
* SkyDrive Pro (7GB+)
* Twitter and facebook integrated (posting screenshots in FB)

I've no idea why you expect them to make pay features free. I expect everything that is gold only now will remain that way with an expansion of the gold advantages. Live is a $1b a year money cow, they aren't going to sacrifice it.

Not getting paid is not competence for a business.

Well, it is just my guess. But it is not about the pay only, it is about the evolution of Xbox Live for next gen Xbox (and another Xbox enabled platforms).

The topic is talk about what can we expect from Xbox Live 3.0 (new features).

If Sony stays the course with PSN and Microsoft does the same with Live, then Sony will have an important message in their PR work.

"If you want to play with others without paying a subscription fee choose a PS4"

And they could do all kinds of added costs of the competition etc etc, i doubt they will fumble that ball again, considering they actually have something to compete with this time.

I predict XBOX Gold will be more like added services and free games while silver should be free multiplayer and video services.

Sony will also have a question to answer for shareholders. Why aren't we getting some of that?

They are, psn+.

As great.as it is to get free stuff every month Sony is not doing it for my benefit

I agree, current Xbox Live service is as it is, it can't change, but Next Xbox Live needs new offers.

I'm confused. Or you are. ;) There is no Next Gen Live. Live is an ongoing service. XBox Live became Xbox 360 Live, and that'll be what Xb720 Live is. MS can add features, but it's the same service across consoles. XB360 owners who see 720 owners gaming for free on the same service may be pretty irate. Or may be encouraged to switch to save annual fees. But whatever, there is no Live 3.0. There'll be a set of XB720 services delivered on the device, such as video capture or whatnot, and a network interface protocol that'll have access through the 720 and probably Windows too (watch those clips on Win 8 phones).

Ok, Xbox Live 3.0 = current Xbox Live + new things... I'm not talking about a completly new thing.

First Xbox Live was not free, Xbox 360 Xbox Live was Free+Gold. Things can change/evolute. Messenger evolved to Skype + Messenger (and I'm sure messenger will disappear), Hotmail evolved to Outlook, SkyDrive, Zune, etc. Services can evolve.

Sure, but you have to factor in that Live is current on the old Xbox. The difference between Live on 360 and Live on XB was the addition of free services, and not a change to the service. So how does free Live gaming on 720 fit in with paid multiplayer gaming on 360? A change to the service will have to be platform agnostic, so the end of paid multiplayer on 720 would have to be accompanied by the loss of paid multiplayer on 360.

Well, I'm not an expert, but... aren't live games "P2P"? change "the client" and you can have two layers of Xbox Live games, current Xbox Live and new Xbox Live games. Xbox to Xbox 360 cross game was impossible, maybe it can be the same for next gen.

And they can offer "restricted" free online, only with friends, or only matchmaking, I don't know.

At 2005 MS "sell" the "now, it is free" (talking the new Silver account, not free at all), they can play with the same, "now it is free, and now with online".

They could offer Silver and Gold on 720 with multiplayer part of silver on 720 but not on the 360, and still have extended Gold offerings for Multiplayer. Since it's essentially to different platforms this could be a way to implement it. Maybe it's just me that thinks the Subscription service could be an issue for 720 but unless Sony starts to charge for the basic services MS will be the only pay to play with your friends console.

Those that aren't "married" to the Live platform could be up for grasps,

Subscription service is not an issue, online payment is the issue.

And risk pissing off current Xbox Gold members that have paid for up to 4 years of service via discounted Xbox Live Gold cards? And risk the holy hellstorm that would sweep the internet if that were to happen? Unlikely.

What is more likely is that Xbox Gold service will be greatly expanded while Xbox Silver may get some slight upgrades in services offered.

Current gold users could get "pro" services, not in "free" account.

Sure and that works great for some friends of mine who got Xbox Gold mainly for Netflix while occasionally doing multiplayer. But for those people that got Xbox Gold mainly for the multiplayer, suddenly making it free will be like a slap in the face to them.

But they (gold user) can get more from online, Im not talking about tv or audio services, Im talking about things for online. Things like clans, with group achievements, more options for group chat (not found on silver), or F2P games only for gold. I will pay for something like this, or if I have a gold account I will feel like gold is worth of pay.

Some of these I believe are more likely than others

-higher quality voice chat
-larger group chat
-picture-in-picture video chat
-overlays for displaying notifications from web apps like weather warnings, sports scores, stock ticker, email, calendar, social platforms
-picture-in-picture video from apps (youtube, netflix etc) and music streaming from apps while gaming (Pandora, Xbox Music, etc)
-store for user created content
-larger packet limit for online gaming enabling more players in a game session
-new algorithm for player matchmaking
-ability to save, upload user gameplay videos
-more player-to-player features for recommending games, "liking" content, rating content etc
-more Avatar shit that I don't care about
-3D video chat with Kinect
-better implementation of "Beacons"
-some achievements crap that I don't care about
