I was playing Gears of War tonight and when I went to the dashboard it said that there was an update available. Did anyone else get it? I wonder what it was for.

Omfg Yes! They Fixed 1080p On Bravia Sets!!!!!!!!!!!! Works with VGA cable now! Id like to think my message to Major Nelson on XBL yesterday sped up the process but I'm not that naive :) Pics!

Hmm yeah I was thinking it was a bit too big for an update to PGR3 :p (which was what I thought it was)

- Improved support for HD video output over VGA, including 1080p resolution
- Improved plug and play performance for wired headsets when being used with wireless controllers
- Changes made to recently played games list to improve accuracy

:???:
I heard there aren't many HDTV's that support 1080P over component.

There aren't. At the moment only Samsung does that, but it's just not considered a priority for the manufacturers as everything now is moving towards HDMI and digital signals, especially new formats like 1080p.

Funny, they reportedly fixed the issue with the Sony's and VGA at 1080p, but now my Panisonic underscans the 1080p signal from component far beyond correction where as it was fine before.

Err...Samsung, Sharp, Panasonic, Westinghouse all support 1080p components last time I checked.

The only "big" name missing from there is Sony.

Granted, 1up doesn't even understand the difference between downscaling to 480p and downgrading to the rendering to 480p. But yeah, I doubt Sony is going to be implementing any scaling for current games. At least some games are bound to get built to support some scaling in the future though.

Too bad they fail to read:

For example, the above image shows a Sony XBR3 television finally displaying 1080p content over component. So, for those users who only needed that fixed, you're on your way.

Its over VGA! 1080i is the max supported over component..damn fools! This is why I hate blog based gaming news sites. They are in such a hurry to one up the other bloggers they do half assed news reports.
