Google Cloud Platform goes 8 for 8 in World Cup predictions
.......

And, now what you’re waiting for… We updated our model with the touch-by-touch data from the Round of 16 to predict the results of the quarterfinals. Here you go:

Brazil vs. Colombia: Brazil (71%)
France vs. Germany: France (69%)
Netherlands vs. Costa Rica: Netherlands (68%)
Argentina vs. Belgium: Argentina (81%)

I got 8 for 8 as well, as did more than 40% of my colleagues. It wasn't rocket science ... ;) In the next round, the only difference is that I predicted Germany over France. I gambled on Argentina over Belgium as well, but I wouldn't make it as sure a bet as the above prediction.

i actually think columbia might be able to cause an upset tonight by kicking out Brazil.

I also hope CR prevails against Netherlands. :p

The only surprise there is the least favorite of those is holland, of the 4 games I'ld say thats prolly the easiest one to pick
Hopefully belgium can cause an upset, as well as columbia

France vs. Germany: France (69%)
How on earth did they get this number, France has been pretty average this tournament whereas Germany has been one of the top teams. /baffled

Both teams finished first of their group with 7 points. France had a goal difference of 6, Germany had 5.

France beat Nigeria 2-0 in the round of 16 in 90 minutes, while Germany needed extended time to defeat Algeria 2-1. Germany's group was tougher, since it had Portugal, but the latter performed pretty poorly. All in all, it was pretty balanced on paper.

Looking at the game, Google was wrong but not ridiculously so. Germany's goal was somewhat questionable (the scorer won his contest against the defender by shoving him away) and France got more scoring opportunities: 13 shots, 9 of which were on target, vs. 8 and 6 respectively for Germany. Possession, which usually favors the "defending" team, was 50-50.

Ultimately Germany was more successful, but not by much.

Algeria was a pretty strong team, IMHO, much better than Nigeria.

Anyway, in my work pool, 13/16 voted for Germany to win ...

I'd just be happy with a European team winning. Even better would be a EU vs EU final (probably Germany/Netherlands, only they've gotta beat Brazil and Argentina respectively).

My money was on Germany from the start and I've been supporting them since England got knocked out (I.e. the start), but if they were to play Netherlands in the final I think I'd prefer the team that's never won before to win.

I do like watching Germany play.

Neymar is out of the World Cup.
Thanks to Juan Zuniga brutal violence Neymar broke serious.

Broke the Rib.

Can someone explain why Neymar didnt roll around on the ground as much as some of his other 'injuries' ?

New View.

IMHO it was intentional.

The ugly game.

Read someone saying that Neymar was attacked in FC "Santos" or something which is a portion of why he left for Barcelona.

Seems alot of the south american leagues play dirty, and so did Neymar to some degree. Lots of clips of Neymar getting kicked and punched, and and one or 2 of Neymar giving the kick or a punch. Though Neymar is on the receiving end alot more than the giving end. Plus some oscar award winning dives.
