Wireless USB: Bluetooth is Dead

For those of you who have read up on WUSB, will the PS3 and Xbox 360 be compatible with it? Advantages of WUSB is no interference, low power consumption and low cost. The technology screams "use me in game consoles!!!"

Let's speculate, shall we?

I thing controller interfaces are probably set in stone at this point, aleast for the 360, the ps3 may change but I doubt since they were talking about using bluetooth for other things aswell

Do you think the PS3 Bluetooth will let you connect a cell phone Bluetooth headset for wireless chat, and for games like SOCOM?

If 360 or PS3 will be capable of any sort of wireless USB functionality, it'll have to be via add-on since neither will support it natively. Wireless USB is indeed cool, but I see Sony pushing/prefering Bluetooth 2.0 - which is also very cool.

Not that either will show up in either console for the time being.

@Synergy: I think the PS3 will include some sort of communication between bluetooth phones and the PS3, but I forget where it was mentioned and I don't think the extent has been discussed.

Why is BlueTooth considered Dead when it's widely in use and works? What your title ought to say (but like so many wannabe journalists you seem to have gone for the inflammatory, sensationlist title. It's terrible what the tabloid use of headlines has done to the use of the English language) is 'Wouldn't WirelessUSB be a better wireless system for use in consoles than BlueTooth?' and maybe supplied a few intelligent links to those of us who haven't a clue what the differences between the two systems are (including cost).

Or even something like "Best wireless standard for console controllers?" Although, I must admit to being extremely excited about the prospects of Bluetooth in the PlayStation3. I already adore it in my Laptop and Cell phone/headset.

Whoa my bad - in my earlier post I set Bluetooth 2.0 up to be the competing standard for Wireless USB, but the transfer rates won't be similar until the Bluetooth 3.0 spec is finalized (if even then). PS3 indeed does have Bluetooth 2.0 - which I think is great - and to be sure bluetooth will likely thrive in spite of wireless usb, as they are better suited to different tasks. Also, it has a favorable power profile, despite the low power useage of wireless usb.

I am looking forward to wireless usb in a big way though for my PC.

Well, is that really possible? I mean I can know mouse, keyboard and internet are doable through WUSB, but is video and and audio? I imagine perhaps 2.1 speakers... but I still can't see it being possible for video trandfers. Or maybe I'm thinking a little to far reaching?? Sorry, if that's the case.

Imagine a totally wireless PC. That would rock. Though we'd need some sort of synch button to pair devices with the host.
Yes imagine....all those batteries to replace/recharge.....
