Will get PS3, not XB360

I don't have a clue which is/will be the better console hardware-wise but I cannot imagine not buying/playing MGS4. I don't think there's any XB360-exclusive knockout title but I sure know of one for the PS3.

You don't want halo349879? ;)

I've never understood buying a platform for one game. I guess gaming is just not as important to me as it is to many other people.

I'm in no way going to imply Metal Gear isn't worthy of admiration, but what appeals to you so much? Certainly the talent of Konami has earned them elite status.

Anyway the main game I'd would put forward that could be a system seller for Xbox 360 is Crackdown. When I first started to read about this game and see the screenshots I was unimpressed, but now more detail has come out, I feel Crackdown could turn out to be something truly next-level as far as gameplay goes. The style of the graphics seem to really fit into the theme of the game.

Not that you shouldn't buy a Playstation 3, but Crackdown is what Sony execs and stockholders will probably sweat bullets over.

Crackdown is still avery unproven thing, could be great, could be mediocre.
I don't see many people basing their console buying decision on an unreleased new franchise.
The Halo's, Metal Gear Solids, PGR's, Gran Turismo's, Zelda's, Grand Theft Auto's, Final Fantasies, Tekkens, DoA's... they are what make people decide.

The inbound PS3 versions of WarHawk and G-Police have sold me on the Playstation 3 as my only next gen console. If Sony do another Colony Wars, then that's just the icing on the cake. Oh, and another Dropship game, please. :D

G-Police?? where?!

Final Fantasy, Silent Hill, Resident Evil, Project Zero and Dragon Quest are the established franchises that matter to me, especially the first two of them. The platform that'll have them, will be my choice. PS3 it is then.

G-Police isn't a cert at all :p I think the comment from the 10th anniversary stuff was simply and truly that dev's own personal wish, not something that was necessarily happening..

If that is so, I'd highly recommend borrowing a PS2 and play MGS1 and MGS2. They are still up to this day some of the best games available and it should make warm you up in time for MGS4. I'd also recommend playing MGS3 (best game of the series by a very large margin IMO).

That will ensure you hold out until PS3 launches and by then, you'll know if the MGS-style of gameplay appeals to you or not. If you realize it doesn't - you still can re-decide which console you want to buy (and suffice to say, they'll be out more on Xbox360 by then to help your decision if you're still uncertain).

Something tells me that Rev has never played any of the Playstation 1 and 2 MGS titles. If that's the case, he might be in for a rude surprise when he gets to play his copy of MGS4.

...why?

Didn't Reverend just say "I cannot imagine not buying/playing MGS4"
I think he likes MGS, and has played them before, right??

Well to me the upcoming Bioware game is clearly on par with anything Kojima has put on the table and there are many others too, Halo 3 for example.

Because it's top down gameplay view is so different than what he is probably use to in PC shooting action games. It's nothing like the trailer in gameplay, if it continues the MGS formula.

Didn't Kojima say in some interview that MGS4 would be playable in first person view too? Maybe the third person toppish down view being the default, but you could switch to 1st person anytime, and actually move in that view too this time, unlike in MGS2 & 3.
