Poor Sony... They really need to hire new marketing people.
Cannes Lion advertiser of the year: Playstation
Well it was bound to happen after all those little lions, the brand has won 26 of them, and three grand prix awards. Ken Kutaragi , vice president of Sony Computer Entertainment will be receiving the advertiser of the year award on Saturday the 25th of June at the Cannes Lions.
Playstation has consistently done great ads ever since the brand was born back in 1994.
Their Grand prix were, Playstation "Nipples" 1999, Playstation "Rebirth" 2003 and last year they won with the film "Mountain"
Update: Playstation is also the Clio Awards advertiser of the year and will grab home that trophy at the Ritz-Carlton in Miami
Heh. 'Fun' they say? Time to bring up this old PS3/Wii/Apple spoof again, methinks. Took them long enough to catch on...

Judging by past mishaps they'll probably end up showing people playing a Wii.

There must be some name for this amusing phenomenon..."The Nintendo Originator Theory"? We need something snappier, something that rolls off the tongue..
..oh well, maybe Nintendo will invent it for us, as it does everything
I'm almost sure there was sarcasm in there somewhere, but I can't quite find it.Sony copied Nintendo. Obviously. Showing people in a living room playing computer games is such a gobsmackingly original and inventive idea, no-one but Nintendo could think of it. Sony have just posted up some new pics and back dated them to not look like they're copying. But we all know the truth. The idea would never, ever have occured to Sony to show ordinary folk playing their console and looking happy with it. The very notion of showing customers using and enjoying your product is rare genius, and it took Nintendo to develop the idea. I wouldn't be surprised if other companies also started showing ads where customers are seen to use their product! I bet car companies will be the first. I bet they'll start showing people driving their cars and looking cheery. Nintendo have really pushed forwards the bounds of advertising and everyone's going to be rushing to copy them!

Isn't that back-to-front thinking? Surely Nintendo are wasting money advertising because they're selling as much as they can make, while Sony need to drum up interest because they're not selling, and part of that is convincing people it's worth 600 bucks. The feature set of PS3 has improved quite a lot since launch, and showing that it's better, and getting better all the time, is going to attract more customers than keeping quiet and not telling them what it does, leaving Joe Public thinking it's just a 600 (Euro)dollar games machine.I think there is little use in showing alot of tv comercials for a 600dollar console you know, looking at current sales...
