Why RGB pixels on LCD displays? How about coloured backlighting instead?

Why not have really high resolution monocrome LCDs and then fast-switching coloured backlighting?
This would remove a lot of the remaining screendoor effect, increase resolution and give better colour resolution.
One problem could be getting the colourswitching fast enough, but if no other light-tech is fast enough then just use LCD shutters... Right?

Edit: I just figured out why this wouldn't work, nevermind . Just erase this thread if any mod sees it.

I think one of the new techniques include having a LED backlight for every pixel.
