Why no exit buttons in retail games compared to demo games

This seems an issue that shouldn't be an issue to anyone :)!:) but it seems rather strange. Every single Xbox 360 game demos have 'exit button' on game menus, however this is not present on retail games (well you can press guide button and exit to dashboard anyway).

I was wondering, why isn't there one for retail games, and if you need to press guide button only, then why put it (into demo) in the first place! it is either you have it for all, or you don't have it at all.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's some sort of standard that MS imposes, that all "Applications" have a exit button, and then Demo's maybe fall under the category of Application.

That's my random stab in the dark anyways ;)

It's a certification requirement.

No idea what is the motivation, though - maybe that you're supposed to play retail games for a longer time (e.g. you need to get up to change the DVD - or at least needed to, before Games on Demand) - while demos are supposed to last around 15 minutes.

Dropping out to the dashboard is always a few button-presses away, though.

Three, to be precise: Guide+Y(+UP)+A. You can do it in half a second, much faster than having to return to the main screen and then press the exit button and the confirmation button. It would be nice to have the option to exit the game via its menu, though, given that many people might not even know how to return to the dashboard without resetting the console or ejecting the disc.

There's kind of been a big stink about the lack of Exit buttons on some Indie games. There's no requirement by Microsoft to have one, but the Creators who review the games feel it's bad form. They're not allowed to fail games that don't have it, but they can choose to abstain by not passing them. It's basically there only method of quality control. Personally I don't have a problem with them. Yes, it would be nice to have, but I'm seasoned enough to know how to use the Guide button. I can see where newbies might have an issue though.
