Why is AMD losing the next gen race to Nvidia?

What I find surprising is just how large Vega 10 is. I mean, it's similar to Fiji in unit count and its memory interface is half the latter's size, yet it's almost as large in spite of the 14nm process.

Granted, the front end is apparently much improved, and I guess it has fast DP, but still!
I thought Vega 10 didn't have fast DP, since these slides show Vega 10 with 1/16 DP. Was there something I missed?

The mystery deepens....

Was Hawaii's DP gimped in some way so as not to be as effective in practice as in theory, relatively of course? Looking back, Hawaii was a pretty damn good chip, a shame that its tessellation improvement drivers came when it was rebadged.
