Who's getting KOTOR?

I actually posted this in thread about Doom 3 in the PC gaming forum :

**************************************
Should I get it for the PC or wait for the Xbox version?

500 MHz K6-2 cpu, Geforce4 MX 440SE gpu, 256MB PC100 sdram PC

or,

Xbox?
**************************************

Am I better off getting the PC or the Xbox version of KOTOR (Stop laughing guys)?

i guess with that PC, u're better off getting the Xbox version, which at least guarantees stable frame rate and stability (unless they fuck up the port of course)...... i'm not sure about the system requirements for KOTOR but that PC is pretty...........crap.........

Get it for PC. It'll give you reasons to upgrade :)

I'll be waiting for PC version as well. I hope they ship it on DVD, this time.

Ok guys intial impressions. I made it to the apartment and am looking for Balista. Graphics look very PC ish. But very good. Had;nt noticed any fancy dynamic lighting really. The chrome troopers look excellent as do some of the aliens you talk to in Taris.

I can tell it's deep and is going to take some time to get the hang of items, inventory mgmnt etc. It's really strange going from Golden Sun Lost Age to this. I just finished GS last nite. Damn fine RPG. Story was meh but oh man the puzzles, dungeons and battle system. Anywho more impressions later. Got to get back to KOTOR. So far I'd say the reviews are inline with what I've seen so far. It's still slow at this early point. ttyl

I'm a bit further along than Goldni.. graphics are clearly Never Winter Nights engine, but with some perpixel effects thrown in, like anything metalic has the Halo 'glow' to it. There's no model LOD system, so the cutscenes can be a bit painful at times. Voice acting is the best thing since FF X, maybe even a little better.. the GUI is very cumbersome, but I'm already getting used to it, definitely a learning curve there. The fight animations are _incredible_, you'd swear it was a real time Devil May Cry type of game! Run into a few bugs thus far which is a little disappointing... nothing serious, just AI quirks.

edit: so far, about 4+ hours in, I'm still wanting a mouse to handle the UI, but its getting better. The game sort of reeks of bloated PC game though.. load times, choppy framerate, etc. However, that isn't stopping it from being fun as hell.

Meh. It came this morning, but nobody was here so they're holding it until at least tomorrow..

I thought that they had the ability to drop things off if they were under $400.. sheesh.. :?

One thing I've noticed so far (17 hours in) is that the graphics in KOTOR are very inconsistent.. IE: on Taris (first world you're on), they were pretty 'meh', but Dantooine was absolutely _stunning_. Go figure :?

Ahem ;)

Notice why I said inconsistent? Now pull up some Dantooine pics, or anything that shows off their perpixel effects on water/metal/bloom lighting.

edit: and what do you expect, its running on a souped up Never Winter Nights engine :p

Thus far, Taris was prettly fugly, Dantooine was gorgeous, and Karriban was inconsistent (some places amazing, Valley of the Dark Lords, others not so hot, like the picture posted in that thread). I'm on Tantooine now, I'll let you know ;)

In anycase, the graphics are definitely KOTOR's weak point, but they far from suck. GSpoy gave them 7/10, I'd probably say 7.5-8/10.

Yeah the graphics are a mixed bag. I'd give the game a solid 8.0-8.5. I dont like the battle system much but the story grows and the voice acting is the best this gen since Eternal Darkness.

About 25+ hours into it now, and its sitting pretty at 9+/10! Combat is a bit finicky.. if you go Warrior, choose dual wield, and beef up your character, nothing will be remotely challenging, even on hard. So its best to mix things up with the force and try not to take a brute force approach.. as neat as it may be, the AD&D rule system just crumbles when you do.

*looks at his character*

Jedi Guardian, 16-30 in one hand, 13-27 in the other, each with +27 to hit/damage (for both) :? Like, absolutely overwhelmingly powerful.

But, its just as much fun to force choke people to death :D

edit: and yes, its true, the story/plot is far far FAR better than anything George Lucas has put out in a long time. Cliche' twist, but hey - it's BioWare ;)
