Who's getting KOTOR?

This is a game that I had no intention of buying.. until this week. I'm reading a lot about this game, and it sounds like a winner. A bit like Morrowind (which I dislike) but with a better combat system ('Wind's main downfall) and lots more polish.

I might be disappointed if I buy it (since PC-style RPG's haven't been my forte in the past) but after reading about the gameplay.. it sounds like I might have a good reason to go to EB sometime this week. :) So what do you folks think?

Same here.. I wasn't looking foward to it until today. However I am fairly certain my friend is going to buy it so I will just play his.

IGN gave it a 9.5

Mine's pre-ordered and everything. I LOVE BioWare's style.. great sense of humour and excellent gameplay. Doesn't hurt that they're Canadian either ;)

The game actually looks to borrow quite a few elements from JRPGs, such as minigames, while retaining a CRPG flavour. I was kinda hoping that they'd break from their Baldur's Gate gameplay mold (dialog, pausing action, sword +1, etc :p), but I guess if it's not broken, don't fix it! The videos of the advanced (level 10+) lightsabre/force fights look INCREDIBLE. Totally puts the Darth Maul duel in Ep1 to shame!

Only qualm I have thus far is the lack of a LOD model system. The cutscene models are pretty fugly :(

I may be a little biased here, but if I was an MS Money Hat, I'd be looking to buy BioWare :)

I'm waiting for the PC-version too. I just can't imagine playing a Bioware-RPG with a gamepad instead of the proven keyboard/mouse-combo. At least from what I've heard the underlying gameplay-mechanics in Kotor are quite similar to Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights and I just don't see me playing such games on a console. Besides I prefer playing a game with FSAA, AF and a high resolution if possible :)

Picking it up this week. I need to dust off the inch thick dust from my XB though. It's been begging for a decent game to play. Especially if this turns out to be the AAA title that some of the sites seems to think KOTOR is. I can't believe it's been since Halo (well ok Splinter Cell) since I've had a good AAA XB game. Since I've only got a 1ghz PIII & TNT 2 in my PC I'm going with the XB version. Or do u guys think my rig will run it better than my XB?

Not a chance, stick with the XB version ;)

9.1? Damn, Gamespot are more than a little tough on games (XB games in particular), so it must be fantastic.

edit: just read the review.. wow, Gspot never fails to rain on a parade (unless its a GTA game!). "Environments are big, but ultimately useless" "Must is great, but subdued" "Animations are great, but the graphics suck" "Minigames are well done, but pointless"

Heh. Not that I prefer IGN's fanboi frothing-at-the-mouth, but after reading that review I'd figure KOTOR to be a 7.5-8/10 game.

Why poeple play Starwar games...I fail to understand. Though this one looks good but all previous games have sucked. All movies into games should be banned.

Do I have to smack you with a copy of Star Wars Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader? :D
Graphics, artwork, SFX AND gameplay are top notch, can't wait for Rebel Strike!

Well, if anyone is really unsure, I should be able to provide some initial impressions of the game by Thursday night. Unless something goes wrong with the shipment to my local Babbages (which has happened twice before with new Xbox titles).

I'm picking this one up, but for PC. For a multitude of reasons. Mainly because I'll have more time in October than I do now, and because I'm upgrading my PC so I'm looking for games to play on it :p

Someone actually liked Rogue Leader?!?

Star Wars Games used to be great, at least on PC! X-Wing and TIE Fighter were truly awesome games (Dark Forces and Jedi Knight weren't too shabby either). But that was back in the days when LucasArts was actually producing loads of original and great titles themselves instead of turning into a pure LucasFilm licensing whorehouse like it's been in the last couple of years.

KOTR sounds aweseome though, looks like BioWare did a lot right with this license. I think I'm gonna get it, just not sure for what platform yet...
