New Longhorn for Mobile Aero GUI? (Just kidding ;))

Well, that’s probably not as crazy as you might think. I do vaguely remember one report bestowing the virtues of a mobile 3D interface, suggesting how its easy to display much more data on a small screen.

do You mean this paper: http://www.cs.lth.se/~tam/pubs/masses.pdf

from this site: http://graphics.cs.lth.se/research/mobile/ ???

By the way, the LG-phone look´s   WOW!

Futuremark. In a first public demonstration, Futuremark will show the "Twilight" OpenGL ES game scene developed for Intel for the SPMark04 hardware-accelerated benchmark.

* WW II bombers fly in a squadron escorted by fighter planes in twilight
* The demo offers richly rendered close-up views of the planes with advanced 3D effects.
* Twilight will be shown on Dell Axim x50v featuring Intel 2700G multimedia accelerator.

Quantum3D. Quantum3D will demo a 2D/3D UAV controller prototype application written using Quantum3D's IData toolset running atop OpenGL ES on the Axim X50v. It features a dynamically textured moving map based on elevation data, a prototype 3D view, and a user interface including graphical route modification. All rendering is implemented using our tools with our OpenGL ES IData runtime port.

well, this is not 3D, but it's something related to mobile devices:
07.03.2005 Bitboys Introduces Vector Graphics Processor for Mobile Devices at Game Developers Conference
as a snippet from press release:
"As much as we all love 3D graphics, it's 2D that does most of the work - good 2D with the anti-aliased edges and sharp lines that are essential on a tiny screen. To do it right without using excessive amounts of power or transistors takes real skill," said graphics industry expert Dr. Jon Peddie of market research firm Jon Peddie Research. "The market potential for 2D or vector graphics acceleration is over 425 million units, and more if you add dedicated vector acceleration to high-end phone 3D engines. Bitboys is a leading IP core supplier in the handheld market, and the introduction of a dedicated vector graphics engine will propel them even further."
The whole press release is available at Bitboys site:

I think this is the thing some of those might still want, who said that they do not need 3D in phones. Anyone would love to have longer battery hours.
