When was the first time you came across complex numbers in your work?

I've done complex numbers in my maths classes, however in my private work I've only worked with Quaternions to do rotations in 3D and they didn't just pop up, I already knew about them.

I've not had a problem where complex numbers just naturally popped up.
Have any of you guys had complex numbers naturally pop up when solving a problem?
When it happens to me I'm going to take a photo as a trophy.

alas, the course my life took left all? advanced mathematical concepts back in the classes that i took (calculus*3, modern algebra, numerical analysis (aced out of this class a month early cause i was blowing the curve), linear algebra, etc). forgotten mostly at this point. just hoops i once jumped through. i did accidently derive the mod function once at work as a solution. DOH! life is 'funny' that way i guess.
