What will impress you about Matrox...

As it concerns Matrox, there really isn't any question that they have good engineers. [/quote]

Are we sure of this? My memory of the rumor mill was that NVIDIA bought out a lot of the key talent at Matrox, which is what scuttled the G800 into the G550. Of course, thats simply the rumors, regurgitated without proof.

RussSchultz: matrox has two design teams.
afaik, team that was working on with last G-series core, losed a lot of engineers to nVidia
another team has been working since project begining with their next gen.

matrox had to decide if they want G800 make a flop and keep going with next gen or move ppl from next gen design to finalize G800. they decided to keep next gen going and hire new ppl to finish G800 as it is now, (G550.) and maybe later start initial research and development of DX9 updgrade to this next gen. Matrox has released new chips once in year and introduced brand new core every three-four years. Now it is the turn of new core and next year we propably will see update to this new core.

Why does a company have to possess huge cash reserves to make a superior product ?? Anybody remember a Little company named AMD that released the fastest X86 processor right out from under the shadow of the Cash Cow Intel ??
Money has little to do with it, its the people that make the difference in any company. People are a companies most important asset.
:-?

And if the Athlon hadn't worked, AMD would have gone under.

Money has everything to do with making a superior product. It buys and keeps the good engineers, feeds them with quality tools, and reduces pressure to get it right the first time or die. Management is more willing to be risky, react in a situation when things are getting out of hand, staff it correctly, etc. It also allows people NOT to take short cuts that bit back in the long run. Mind you, its not the only reason, but...

I can almost guarantee that money is the reason BitBoys isn't going anywhere. Maybe they've got a terrific idea, but without the money to bring it to fruition they're just another failed startup.

I agree :p , yet they didn't did they. Money certainly helps anything including peoples standard of living but never be fooled because the big bad money machine has alot of good engineers, the little guys can still be inovative and put out good stuff.
AMD was a great example, they put all their money into the Athlon, and it worked :D

It can also be argued that having money will make you less risky. A company looking up from the bottom might actually be more willing to take a risk.
