Both ATi and nVidia claim that Mafia uses Pixel Shaders but I can't find any info at all on this.
If there is indeed shaders in the game I'd assume they're PS1.1 and VS1.1 does anyone know for sure?

Also does Jedi Knight use fragment shaders or is it just plain jane DX7-class graphics?

And last but not least: Battlefield 1942 doesn't use any shaders right?

IIRC, Jedi Knight is DX5, JK2 is plain OpenGL without shaders (Q3 engine), and I'm not sure about Jedi Academy.

It can't be any lower than DirectX7 because it uses T&L (should it be available). Sorry :p

(No version before D3D7 equals OpenGL feature wise, because of T&L)
 
jedi academy did add shaders but I dont know what version and I think it was just to speed things up in the rendering.

JA added shaders? I didn't think any OGL games had even DX8-level shaders in them yet--you sure you aren't confusing pixel shaders with Q3A-style shaders (which, I believe, is simply semi-opaque textures placed on top of each other)?
 
I read it from a game review I think it was IGN or Gamespot but they could have gotten them mixed up. From what I heard it used a few small ps 1.1 and vs 1.1 shaders but this came from the review... Maybe someone who has more intimate knowledge of the game can speak up! I haven't played it yet.

there's been games using "proper" shaders
DroneZ, Crazy Car Championship, Neverwinter Nights

I also think another Quake 3 engine game used "proper" shaders
(ie not "id software" shaders so to speak:) )
 
what does BF1942 use to do the reflections on some of the airplanes? cube environment mapping?
