What Studio would you like to work for?

haha thats funny man . But hey even if i only work there for a year i know i worked for the best game desigening company that ever existed.

I'll work for anyone that pays well, and is located near decent scubadiving :D

Seriously though I'd like to work for NCL, but not because I think it would be a particularly good experience (having been to their offices I somehow doubt that), but because I'd like to see how production works in that environment. Similarly I'd like to see polyphony's production proocess and Konami for that matter.

My general selection criteria for employers usually comes down to how "healthy" the development environment feels. I spend too much of my life working to hate going to work.

Ico team for their artistical approach.

That would be Production 3 (aka 3 Next Project and previously known as R&D3), they also did Operators Side and some other title I can't remember off the top of my head... It's kind've a nebulous group within SCEJ...

I'd like to work for either Naughty Dog or Insomniac. I've met both teams and seen both working environments so I second Archie's comments about ND and extend them to Insomniac.

I've been to both, but I figured I'd pick one, and I've got more face time with Naughty Dog, plus they're much closer to the beach (c'mon we're talking 3rd Street Promenade!), plus Treyarch, Pandemic, and Black-Ops are all practically within walking distance (makes for some fun intra-office lunch-time basketball and rollerhockey matches at the beach)...

Assuming you're referring the Kyoto building, I don't think it would either... Been there; it's a little too "antiseptic" for my tastes, but I do love Kyoto though! That's why I preferred HAL and Brownie Brown. Still very much like NCL but a little more laid back and playful... (Especially Brownie Brown).

Well my girlfriend was a contracted OL at KCEJ (both Ebusu and Shinjuki buildings) and KCET for a while and all I can say about that is those places are very corporate. The production levels are usually locked down like Fort Knox with arcade levels being the only ones relatively open... Seemed too stifling to me....

Well I'd imagine the first would be a given... Scubadiving huh? You sound as bad as Faf with his snow skiing! :p

Archie, can you elaborate more on their status, how that studio was assembled together... something about their history if you will.

I wouldn't gamble on that! Although you might like getting some quality time with a lot of musicians...
So the money thing is just good PR eh :?
Anyway it's not like I haven't done that in the past, having ~10 years of musical education behind me... And I certainly wouldn't mind the whole quality time thing if they're hot girl musicians :p

What do you think was one of the main reasons for my wanting to work at UbiSoft MTL? ;)

Actually PDs production processes are something I'd like to see myself too. I am just a little vary about "wishing" to work there given that a) I got a little sick with racing game development, or at least had enough of it to last me a while... and b) in accordance to a) gathering MORE racing game development experience may just get me stuck in the genre like... forever.
But then I figure you already know a thing or two about that...

well I managed to break that cycle, my current project has absolutely nothing to do with racing anything. :p

The reason I brought up polyphony is because the quality of product they produce is exceptional. I'm somewhat fascinated by the production process, I always feel it could be done much better, and it's interesting to see other peoples solutions to the problem.

And Scubabdiving beats snow skiing anyday :p

Back on track: My top three choices would have to be:

EAD - Always been a Nintendo fan. Meeting and working with Shiggy would make my life complete. 8)

Factor 5 - These guys rule. Turrican series is one of the best platform shoot-em-up's ever, and damn can they ever run some mad game code on the GameCube.

AM2 - 8) Do I really have to elaborate?

So true! Back in that days, they've gave away sample/preview floppies of the Amiga version at a general computer con (ASM booth). I was standing in the middle of the crowd and it was bloody, but I was able to get one ... it was just the first level, but I played it over and over again for hours :)

Archie, can you elaborate more on their status, how that studio was assembled together... something about their history if you will.

Well there's not much is the sense of history to cover... It's not really a studio in the traditional sense, it's just a group of folks that coagulate into one of SCEJ's 4 production teams. Team IOS is sort of another nick (the first letter of the three titles that have been released from them) for Production 3 (keep in mind that within a production group there are several teams in which people will float around between).

So the money thing is just good PR eh

Well depends on your position... Somebody in your position would be paid pretty well. But assistent or junior code-monkeys, artists, etc. don't.

Granted I don't think any of us are really doing it for the money (It'd be a lot easier to do so in another programming field). I mean during my University days I got paid in peanuts moonlighting at Hudson, but it was sure fun and it did put food in my belly (since the rest of my funds were going to school and toys). I probably could've made more hawking sketches in Harajuku (and perhaps scored a room in that apartment building I wanted so badly)...

Anyway it's not like I haven't done that in the past, having ~10 years of musical education behind me... And I certainly wouldn't mind the whole quality time thing if they're hot girl musicians

Well there aren't too many girl musicians I got to work with or met there other than Yoko Shimomura (who is fun to go out drinking with), but there's usually a ton of cute artist chicks (which is pretty much the norm at most Japanese game studios)... Although other studios do have more cute musak girls (like UGA)

What do you think was one of the main reasons for my wanting to work at UbiSoft MTL?

The French speaking ch1x0rs? ;) :p

Well it does help to be a bit of a car nut (after all *they are*!). However you might get lucky out of the 8 titles they've released, 1 WASN'T a car game! I'd imagine they're about due for another non-car title after GT4. Who knows, maybe they'll work with Shoji Kawamori again?!

Omega Blast, right? It would be very interesting to see a sequel of that game on PS2 hardware!

"Omega Boost" to be more accurate...

I'd like to see them do something a little more original myself. Granted they're such car freaks, it'd probably still be car oriented. A car oriented RPG would be interesting. Granted I'd be pretty happy if they're next racing title revolves around a more classical theme (ala GPL)...

Yeah. Santa Monica rocks. You have almost everything you need in a little, walkable place. From the Mal to the one side to the bookstore almost at the end of the other side. Not to mention Groucho (IIRC the name) and the delicious stakes u can eat there.

What those team do, actually? Make OS software for PS? If so, how come that such an obviously artistic person as Fumito Ueda ended up there? (and as far as I know, some of his friends who also did artworks were actually part of the team that made Ico)

So it IS possible to get out alive? Speaking of which, you wouldn't happen to be able to share what kind of genre are you working on now would ya? :p

Would have to agree there, especially must be interesting given the supposed rather large size of PDs team.

I can't get drunk while scubadiving, or even doing it drunk, can I? 8)
But I'll get back to you on this one after I get my scuba license (which should be soon).

True enough, but the other fields happen to be booooooooring...

I would love to work for the Silent Hill Team as a Texture-Artist or better as a junior producer (I'm a man with a hundred ideas). :D
