What kind of driver are you?

I also hate those drivers that hog up the left lane cause they are passing a vehicle going .05ph faster. Speed up and pass don't take 10 miles to pass a freaking Semi.

Rear foglights? What do you drive?.
Standard (probably compulsory) on European cars - it helps stop you getting an unwanted introduction to someone driving behind you. Front fog lights are more of an option.

i like when i'm driving through town on the one lane main street and someone comes speeding up behind me and stays up my ass.

I set my cruise control for 24mph exactly 1mph under the speed limit. i cruise down the strip and i stop for any car that wants to cross or person who wants to cross the street. if i see the do not walk signs start blinking on the other side i slow down even further to get the red light.

I had one guy get so pissed at me that he tried passing me on the right. The block he tried to do it on was the block of the old bank where the cops sit in the old drive through lane as a speed trap. The guy got a bunch of tickets that day.

In my youth i got into a major fight with a guy however. I was driving home from the movies and this asshole came flying up behind me cut next to me and gave me the finger and then cut me off drasticly and slamed on the breaks. I stopedi n time but i got out of my car and pulled him out of the window and started cursing at him in italian and told him i'd cut off a certian part of his body and use it to do something pretty bad to his person . First time i ever saw someone piss themselves. But he was 5'5 and i was 6'4 and i out weighed him by about 120lbs and this was back when i was in shape as a foot ball player before i blew out my knee.

People "sneaking" in heavy traffic typically means they need to change lanes to get to the exit/turnoff to reach where they're going. You should facilitate this by stepping off the gas and letting them in. Showing consideration in traffic means you're statistically more likely to receive consideration in the future, because you'll be inspiring others to act the same way you do. So even from a pure selfishness perspective you'll be helping yourself by helping others. :p

You misread my post. The guy trying to sneak clearly wants to go the same direction that everybody else is: instead of standing in line with the rest of us, takes the exit lane, drives as long as he can and then tries to get back into the lane where every body else is.

If I'm in the fast lane and driving at the speed limit (or, more likely, slightly above) and I see you approaching in the rear view mirror...tell me why should I facilitate your breaking of the law, driving recklessly and needlessly endangering other people on the road? I'll stay right where I am, and if you start flashing me, I'll turn on the rear foglights/start pumping the break pedal. Simple as that.

1. Your not a police officer
2. Driving recklessly and endangering people? That depends on how fast i am going.
3. Hitting the break pedal is surely far more dangerous (mostly for you, because getting hit by say 2,5 tonnes of steel in your ass, is atleast going to give you a serious whiplash) for trafic than you getting out of my way and let me keep going - again you dont know if im doing 20km\h above the speed limit or 200km\h. I didn't specify this. The latter i would agree would be driving recklessly and endangering people on the road. But then you should call the police.

Interesting. I'm not aware of any US cars with rear fog lights.

I don't think cars I've owned let me set cruise below 30 mph.

Alright! Yeah, that's clearly illegal behavior and shouldn't be practised or condoned. However blocking people deliberately when they try to squeeze into a lane (particulary if they're running out of space ahead of themselves) is also dangerous and creating risk of accidents. It's safer to just let him in, and then hang on the car horn to signal your irritation and displeasure with his lack of manners.

1. Your not a police officer
...No. Your point being...?

2. Driving recklessly and endangering people? That depends on how fast i am going.
Driving faster is inherently more dangerous. Elementary physics. Driving significantly faster than the rest of the cars on the road - meaning fast enough to get a speeding ticket - is definitely endangering others. By increasing your speed you're reducing your safety margin - and that of others. Especially at nighttime.

3. Hitting the break pedal is surely far more dangerous (mostly for you, because getting hit by say 2,5 tonnes of steel in your ass
One, there's a difference between stomping on the brake and tapping it briefly so that you see the lights come on...and the distance close slightly.

Two, if you're so close to me that you'll collide with me should my speed diminish for any reason, then you're obviously driving recklessly and dangerously. It's always YOUR responsibility to keep a safe distance to other cars ahead of you. If we collide due to me stepping on the brake, you'll be the one at fault, I could be suffering a sudden medical condition for example.

So don't tailgate, EVER. Very dangerous behavior, and extremely rude and inconsiderate.

than you getting out of my way and let me keep going
Well like I already said, I'm not into letting people drive at whatever arbitrary speed above the speed limit that they personally feel like. Sorry.

The problem with not letting someone in is if the person behind you does the same thing there's no where for the other driver to go. You might think they deserve being forced to slam on their brakes or something, but unless you saw them pull out of traffic to try to pass people you might be jumping to conclusions.

I had a time recently where other drivers tried to keep me from merging because they probably thought I was trying to get ahead at the expense of others. In reality there just hadn't been a good place to merge earlier because of dense traffic. In the end these jerks forced me to accelerate to get ahead of a car I wasn't planning on passing.

It was too late the hit the breaks when one car accelerated to cut off my merge spot. It was a good thing my car had good acceleration because otherwise I probably would have hit the police car that was blocking the lane.

What color are rear fog lights? I'm guessing yellow since white would be confusing.
Red - they are just brighter versions of taillights. They aren't there for you to see anything but for someone else, coming up behind in mist/fog, to have more warning of your presence.

Well, you learn something new. I never realised US cars didn't have rear fog lights. For those who still aren't sure what they are, think F1 in wet conditions.

They also aren't required to have front-side turn signals.

the fog light can also be used to insult tailgaters, but that's a punishable offense. (even just turning or letting it on when they're unneeded)

Really? I assume almost all cars in the US do though don't they, even if it isn't a requirement?

They have the very front ones (those are required) that oncoming drivers can see, but the ones on the front side that are common in Europe are not there (just in front of the front doors for the drivers to the side to see).

Mize why do you think that? Lots of vehicles have side turn signals in the mirrors or on the front quarter panel.
