What GF4 ti series should i get please? I think i want a GF4 ti4400 but not sure. I mean the reason i want a GF4 ti 4400 is so i can overclock it to at least GF4 ti 4600 speeds or maybe even more and save $100 with having GF4 ti 4600 speeds or maybe alittle faster. Also is it safe like to leave a GF4 ti 4200, GF4 ti 4400, or a GF4 ti 4600 overclocked 24/7 forever? i mean i know reviews do it but they do not leave it like that for weeks, months, or years even. So would a GF4 ti series last at least 3 years lets say overclocked or more?

Thanks

Get the Ti4400, you can crank it up to Ti4600 speeds (though you can crank the 4600 up to and over 700Mhz memory!), that's what I have done and get a very stable 305-650 out of my card with the addition of some ramsinks. The way the fan works it to blows air over any passive ramsinks you put on the front of the card which is nice.

Can't really recommend which manufacturer to go for, I've got a Creative card and some people have got done much better overclocking with other manufacturers. But I can play Neverwinter Nights at 1280x1024 with all the eye candy on and FSAA and Aniso without noticing any lag and the same for SOFII. Both of which I bought yesterday, Ay caramba!, but NWN's is good much better, IMO, than Dungeon Siege.

But one thing to ask yourself is whether it's worth upgrading at all just now. The next gens are just around the corner. Even if you can't afford one when they come out they will force the price of current cards down. It'd would probably be better to wait and pick up a cheap GF4 then.

I don't need any extra cooling for the Leadtek A250 TD if that helps any. It's heavy though......

Ailuros how high did you get it overclocked too?

300/650

Remember it's a huge case with 3 case fans one not too far from the vga.

This is a bad time to be buying a GF4, when it's set to be outdated in a month's time or less.

Depends on the location and current prices of each market. I bought it at 60% of it's current market price here, so if I decide to sell it I won't loose much.

I don't see a GF4 or a R8500 outdated anytime soon. Except for 3DMark2003 there won't be much coming our way for pretty much 18 months that requires DX9, so a DX8 card will be just fine as long as you don't want to pay big bucks for being beta tester for the industry (a.k.a. early adopter), and the performance of the current crops of cards is great, that won't change just because some new chips get announced...

I just brought myself a Leadtek GF4 ti 4400 retail video card with a 3 year warranty, with the games, cables, software, etc, a Athlon XP 1800 + processor and a cpu shim from Newegg!

Thanks everyone.

Well, it is not some new chip but The Chip and probably DX9 complaint.
A GF4Ti4600 is a bad buy now.

It is better play the wait game now ;)

Well i am currectly on a duron 800mhz and a old, anicent voodoo 3 2000 pci video card and have I been playing the waiting game for my video card for about 3 years now. I am like 4 to 5 video cards behind. I mean if i keep waiting i will never buy don't you think? I wanted to get a GF2 ultra, i wanted to get a GF3, i wanted to get a GF3 ti 500 but i never did. So i just kept waiting. Finally ordered a new Leadtek GF4 ti 4400 retail, Athlon XP 1800+ and a cpu shim from newegg. I know i could of waited but what if i would of waited and i heard about the next nvidia card coming out after then N30 is out. Then i want to wait longer. Then it would happen again and again with no stopping. Seems like everytime when you wait to get something you hear about something new coming out. Its a never ending waiting game i guess.

That is different.

It is like you are crossing the ocean and stop 100meters before the beach.

You may have a chance to get a DX9 card that you will enjoy for a long time ;)

GF1 and GF2 are DX7.
GF3 and GF4 are DX8.

Now get a DX9 card with improved precision, programmability and performance. Something that has the ideal feature set for Doom3.

Yeah but the N30 isn't due out till Dec. or next year :(
Plus i will beable to play DX9 games on my GF4 ti 4400 like doom3!
Thanks.

pascal yeah but i don't really want to get the R300 because its ATI. I mean i like ATI don't get me wrong i just don't want to have to deal with the drivers if they are buggy. But remember thats if they are buggy. I didn't say they were i just said if they were. I have a feeling the R300 will be good and have pretty good drivers! Matter of fact i would be happy if the R300 beats the GF4 ti 4600 ! Why? More fun in the computer world!! Plus more reviews to read of the R300 ! I mean heck the GF4 ti series are very fast but i wouldn't mine a faster video card to come out! Another thing is the R300 may be pretty expersive when it first comes out and i can't spend $299 on a video card. I wanted to spend alittle less so i would have to wait sometime for the R300 to go in price because i mean i don't think it will be only $199. If it is then thats good!

pascal ok thanks! I hope the R300 is a great video card by ATI!!!! :) That would be very cool! ATI did not do too bad on the ATI 8500 video card.

You should try posting your question on an nvidia fan site then I am sure they will have all the info you need to make a decision. Hrm nvidia or nvidia......... tough choice. http://www.nvnews.net

BTW if the R300 turns out to be a success would you even consider it?

Geek_2002 well not really because i can't afford to upgrade my video card every 1 to 2 months like i wish i could sometimes :( Heck i kept my old, anicent Voodoo 3 2000 pci video card for at least 3 years maybe longer till i upgraded my video card. But i bet i would want it! hehe. Who wouldn't!
