VPN popup every broken link

I am about to go crazy, lately my VPN connection, which I rarely use has been popping up anytime a page has a broken link in it. So say someones avatar is no longer available, or whatever the stupid thing pops up and takes the focus it drove me nuts so I deleted the VPN connection, but I would like to use it once in a while. Has anyone had this problem, or does anyone know how to fix it? Thanks.
