DS version of critically acclaimed Viewtiful joe series to be called Scratch! Viewtiful Joe; details inside.
In the latest issue of Famitsu, Capcom revealed much-anticipated details about the upcoming DS version of the Viewtiful Joe series.
Entitled Scratch! Viewtiful Joe, the series will once again take on the 2D/3D scrolling gameplay of it's Gamecube and PS2 counterparts, however a touch screen twist has been added, as is fastly becoming the trend with DS versions of already-established series.
The game will use the D-pad and buttons as the primary control input, and the touch screen will be used for occasional VFX powers. For example, moving the player's finger across the screen vertically will enable the 'vertical split' VFX power, which makes object on screen split in two. The example given was slicing a billboard in half to drop on an enemy further away.
The focus on the finger was spoken about, with it being stated that using a stylus would be too inconvenient and as such all touch-screen related activities will not require much accuracy, making a finger the perfect tool.
The game is played on the set of the latest Captain Blue movie, where Joe is hanging around until a mysterious agent called Mouda shows up.
The game will also showcase and possibly play with characters from the new Viewtiful Joe anime series as well as all the traditional characters like Joe, Silvia and Alastor.
The release date or price have yet to be released.
There was also Viewtiful Joe: VFX Battle, which I think is sort of like Smash Brothers, announced for GC and PSP. No PS2 version though as people originally thought.
Here's a link to pics of that game for GC and PSP:
