Using mic one one soundcard, connecting amp to another one

Hi!
I have an X-Fi which shares its mic-in and line-in but I don't want to swap cables and I have an old Aureon 5.1 lying around.
Is it possible to use one sound card for sound and another one just for its mic-in?
I tried and I can't hear myself. The mic is checked and the cards should work too (I can hear the mic via the X-Fi, which is plugged into the amp). I also set the Aureon for voice and recording in the Windows panel.

edit:
I solved the problem. :p
I used the test-button in the Windows panel and it works there. I can't hear myself in Windows though which is possible with one soundcard.

i know what does work
a xfi + a usb headset
you use the xfi as normal + set up the usb headset for teamspeak (i assume thats what you want to do ?)

Yes, it's for Teamspeak. :)

I don't want USB because of the CPU-usage I heard of (probably this is true for sound cards only, oh well). Actually I wanted to use the onboard sound, but for some reason nothing happens when I enable it in BIOS. The Aureon works fine now.
Btw. I bought a cheapo clip-on mic from Amazon so I can use my nice headphones. :)
