I don't know what's worse, the disgustingly horrible quality of this game's graphics and art direction or the possibility that SOE snubbed the developer of BDGA/CoN/RTA to produce this crap. Untold Legends on PSP is a cheap knockoff of CoN.

It's interesting seeing a psp franchise being ported to a next gen console. Wish we had some bigger pics though.

Can you hit me up with some quotes? Im serious, you make it sound like there's been a consistent campaign by Sony to downplay 360's graphics over the last year or something. Last Ive checked they've pretty much had a media blackout since E3, rarely PRing about anything let alone the visual capabilities of their competition. Methinks you're being a bit dramatic here.

Yeah, and I rolled my eyes all the same. Its par for the course of posturing a CEO would make as market leader. Does this kind of stuff really get your goat? C'mon.

Yes, I found your generalizations to be a bit disingenuous and thought I'd address that to you.

Taking into account that this particular studio (SOE) doesn't exactly have a stellar track record, and that there is little (if any) expectation for this game to begin with, and that every major third party and Sony's well established first party are currently developing games for the system....yeah I think you may be jumping to conclusions if you're considering these particular screen caps as the benchmark for PS3's launch.

Dunno why people say that SOE allways make shitty looking games. Isnt snowblind merged with SOE? And the Champions games were released under the SOE banner afaik... and Untold Legends on PSP, a game that the snowblind people had nothing to do with looks pretty impressive IMO.

I don't think they're merged, no, or at least they're still seperate teams.

It's one thing making something up to PSP standards, and something else altogether to make a game up to PS3 standards..

Have a look at some of the non-Snowblind PS2 games..I think that's why people give them a rough time.

Snowblind might be a separate team but they are part of SOE afaik.
SOE also created Star Wars Galaxies... Looked pretty good when it was released.

True, but they are a predominantly PC-centric developer (despite the 'Sony' name..they're not related to SCE directly). That game also had the backing and funding of Lucasarts..something tells me a game like that got a lot more resources and attention than the UL series does.

But even looking at their pride and joy on PS2, Everquest, it should be pretty clear why nobody expects very much from them, on consoles at least.

SnowBlind Studios is a 3rd party developer. SOE just employed them to be make a couple of EQ related products fresh off the success of BG: Dark Alliance. SB are advertising for XB360 coders and I think they're next product will be cross-platform, though ther's no real info yet. Their next game is to be announced in a magazine any day now, and a while dark they licensed back the name Dark Alliance off the defunct Interplay which suggests they're going to make next-gen DA/CON type game. But breaking news at the SnowBlind forum has the developers claiming their next title is called "Mary Kate and Ashley Dungeon Explorer and Decorator".

Like all devs under NDA, when they can't talk about their products they spout random madness instead!

I really didnt know Snowblind was 3rd party. I stand corrected.
And yes everquest on PS2 was incredible ugly. But really I thought they would be better than we have seen so far considering I still think UL on PSP is one of the stronger titles.

UL is a poorly done BDGA/CoN/RTA knockoff from the gameplay to the UI to everything in between...it's easy to make an ok game when you don't have to come up with your own ideas. This Dark Kingdom looks to draw a little more from SOE's own talent, or lack thereof.

What I don't get is why on this forum (and other ones) people are so disappointed by something that everybody expected to be mediocre? There are other PS3 game screenshots that look a thousand times better, why didn't they get this much attention?

I really don't think people generally are. I for one think it looks relatively poor, but that's not to say I'm disappointed about it - I'm not, I wouldn't have expected much more from SOE. But for fairly obvious reasons some would like to make a bigger deal out of it ;)

It's not unexpected, but it is disappointing when you consider the quality of the Snowblind games in comparison.

I like it... Im glad everyone isnt just thinking that they need the "realistic" shooting game to qualify for next gen. I like the textures indoors and it looks different.

Sure it is fairly inconsistent with some shadows and some textures... but who know what stage the game is because it does look, well, empty.

Kameo wouldn't be the closest point of comparison I don't think, when I think of the Untold Legends series. It's an action RPG, but more of a dungeon crawler.
